Y4 Mexico Day

To kick start our week learning all about Mexico, Year 4 have had a Mexico hook day. We spent the morning preparing food for our afternoon fiesta. Whilst some of us were cooking, we learnt about Curiot (a Mexican street artist) and created our own creatures based on his work. During the afternoon we found out all about the modern day Maya people as well as sampling our delicious food!

This morning, Year 2 had their personal best session with the coaches. The children did a carousel of activities using a variety of PE skills. They had a great time and worked really hard! Well done Year 2.

Y1 Oakwood Action Teams: Gardening

The Year 1 half of the Oakwood Action Team involved in improving the schools environment pulled their gardening gloves up and got digging in the garden area between Year 1 and Year 2. The children had to clear away any weeds, dead leaves and pull out some huge rocks! After the area was prepped we got digging and planting some different vegetables and fruits. We had sugar snap peas, spring onions, tomatoes and strawberries. We hope that if we look after them well they will grow and we can eat them!

Elm Class visit Lordshill Library

On Tuesday, the sun was shining and Elm Class walked to Lordshill Library. The children had a great time listening to stories, exploring the wide selection of books and choosing a book to borrow. The children have been given time in class to read and enjoy their new library books. Thank you to all our parent helpers for joining us. We had a brilliant afternoon.

Year 5 Dissect Flowers

Year 5 were transformed into surgeons this afternoon, as we dissected tulips to investigate the reproductive parts of a flower. The children had to very carefully take apart and label all of the elements of the flower and they also discovered the role that each part plays in pollination and fertilisation.

We think they did brilliantly. Have a look through the gallery to see their fantastic work.

Eating Well in Year 3!

Year 3 would like to say a big thank you to Ita, who visited us last week from Quorn to talk to us about Healthy Eating and the Eat Well Healthy Plate!

We had a great time learning about how you can have a balanced diet and we impressed her with our knowledge of different foods and ingredients.

We were also joined by Chris from Southampton City Catering, who produce our wonderful school meals.

We would like to say a big Thank You to all of them!

Boys' Test Park 6-A-Side Football Tournament

The school football team played their final matches of the year on Friday afternoon, in the beautiful sunshine at Test Park. It was a last appearance in team colours for a number of players and a final chance to stake a claim for the player of the year awards.

The team got off to a solid start in a tough game against St Mary's - drawing 1-1 having fallen behind. The team's second game was against Bassett Green - Oakwood prevailing 1-0 in a game the team played very well in. The two final group games, against Beechwood and Fairisle B, were both 0-0 draws. This meant that Oakwood finished unbeaten in their group games but only picked up 6 points meaning Oakwood needed either Fairisle B or Beechwood to beat the other in order to progress to the quarter finals. However, they played out a 0-0 draw - eliminating Oakwood from the competition.

Well done to our goal scorers: Tom (1) and Sonny (1) and to our Man of the Match - Fin.

Big Pedal - May the Forth Be With You

Our 'Big Pedal' this year fell on Star Wars day, so we wanted to see how many 'pilots' we could enlist to help destroy the mysterious 'Death-Star' that has appeared in our school.

Over 100 children responded to our call for help, prepared with their helmets. It has been a big success and we hope some children will continue to use this fun and healthy form of travel in the coming months!

An Egg-cellent Year 4 Diary

4JH decided to document each day they chicks spent with us, filming little clips of what the chicks were up to. We loved having the chicks- and updating the video on their progress!

The children learnt how to drive the robots using controls and program them to follow a particular route and maze pattern. We had a fantastic time and learnt lots of new coding skills.

Year 1 Alien Invasion

The aliens have landed in Year 1! Today, we discovered an alien crash site in the playground. We investigated the scene thinking about who the aliens were and where they had come from then used this information to write a diary entry. Can you spot an alien or two?

2018 Y1 Question of Faith day

We had a Question of Faith day. We had three guests come in to teach us all about water and Christianity. We learnt three stories: Jesus walking on water, Jesus getting baptized and Jesus turning water into wine. We had the chance to act these out in groups and share with everyone. We also played true or false with some different facts and they took us outside to play a fun game that worked on our listening skills. Afterwards, we came inside and drew a picture of how we use water and wrote a sentence about why it is precious. We also had fun making some mosaics on pictures from each of the different stories about Jesus.
