Saying Thank You and Goodbye

It was a momentous day yesterday, as the Chair of the OSA Gill Handley-Garland, the Treasurer Gary Chafe and a long standing committee member Charmaine Wilson were presented with a leaving gift from the other members of the committee. They have been responsible for raising thousands of pounds for the school through holding highly successful events such as the Christmas and Summer fayres. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to Oakwood.

OSA Christmas Fair

The OSA Christmas Fair was a brilliant community event once again! Of course we want it to be a successful fundraiser (we'll let you know how much we raised soon!), but the most important things was that it was so well attended, and it was a reminder of just how lovely our community of children, parents and staff is. Everyone had a smile on their face! (Spot yourself in the video!)

Thanks to every one of you for the part you played in making it so. Special thanks as usual to the OSA Committee, particularly Gill and Gary, who go out of their way to make sure the whole thing comes together, Julie and Kelly in the kitchen, and to Martyn and the cleaning team for getting everything spick and span again.

(Thank you to Lidl for providing the food!)

OSA Summer Fete!

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who planned, prepared, helped, came along, spent money, had a burger or an ice cream, played a game, had a flutter on a raffle, picked a tombola ticket, sang, danced, won a coconut, golfed, kicked a goal, nerfed a target, had their nails or face painted, designed a mask, had a cuppa and a cake, climbed or jumped over obstacles, or, in Ms Patchett's case, got gunged!

The OSA Summer Fete was a massive success and a lovely community event - a wonderful day for the Oakwood Family!

Thank you!

OSA Christmas Fair

We would like to say a huge Thank You to everyone who supported the OSA Christmas Fair this year!

All the hard work on behalf of the OSA Committee and the helpers (including our wonderful pupil helpers) was rewarded by great attendance and everyone having lots of fun.

It really got everyone into the Christmas spirit - and everyone was impressed by our GIANT SANTA!

The grand total raised was just over £4000! Thank you!

Thanks especially to Mrs Handley-Garland (Chair of the OSA), Mr Chafe (our treasurer) and Mr Barrett (who helped make sure the school was back up and running the next morning!)

A Record Breaking Christmas Fair!

Many thanks to everyone came along to the Christmas Fair, whether you are a child, a parent, a grandparent, an auntie or uncle, a past-pupil or... anyone else who knows us!

It was a great start to the Christmas season at Oakwood, and the OSA worked very hard to make it an exciting, festive event.

You may have played a game, entered a raffle, bought a present, seen Santa, eaten a hotdog (or done all 5 and more!)... your pennies mounted up and the sum total raised on the evening was...

£4492!
Thank you!

(Some exciting news in the new year about how we're going to spend it!)

A Lovely Summer's Day!

What a fantastic afternoon everyone had at the OSA Summer Fete on Friday!

It was our busiest yet, and the new Barbecue was a real hit if you were feeling peckish!

There were lots of new games to try - balancing coins on lemons was particularly frustrating and Mr Rumble was challenging to make anything out of balloons -and there were lots of old favourites too - what's a summer fete without a coconut shie?!

We also had the very talented ladies and gentlemen of the Lordswood Community Choir joining us. (They have a concert here at Oakwood on 11 July if you want to come along!)

Thanks to the amazing support and the hard work of all the volunteers, and especially Gill Handley-Garland and Gary Chafe (our chair and treasurer respectively), a great time was had by all.

We will let you know the total raised for the OSA as soon as it's been counted!

KS1 enjoy M&M's fantastic production of Pinocchio!

On Friday, KS1 had a very special treat! Thanks to the OSA, M&M Productions came to school with their spectacular version of Pinocchio, complete with "Oh no he didn't!"s, "He's behind you!"s and boundless energy. The children particularly enjoyed references to Frozen, The Lego Movie and X Factor, and even two of our very own Teaching Assistants got to join in the fun! Can you spot them?

A BIG OSA Christmas Thank You!

We wanted to take this opportunity to say a big Thank You!

Your support made our OSA Christmas Fair our most successful event ever!

We were well fed with hot dogs at KS2 and the wonderful Indian food in the KS1 hall, there were lots of games and stalls and prizes to be won, Mrs Whitmarsh and Mr Taylor went "crackers", Miss Patchett was her normal shy, retiring self and, of course, Santa turned up!

Mrs Handley-Garland, Mr Chafe and the OSA committee are pleased to announce that the total raised (which will go back into school funds for special, additional events and resources) was...

£4053.42!

Thanks to everyone involved for such a brilliant Oakwood community event!

A Step Back in Time

The summer break is always a good time to catch up with a few jobs...

Our outgoing Year 6 ICT gurus, Jack and Ryan, scanned a lot of old photos which we found in a dusty cupboard. This is the first time we've had to make them public!

See if you recognise anyone!

Fun on a Summer Evening!

The OSA Summer Fete was a little different this year!

Instead of taking place on a Saturday afternoon, it all happened on a Friday evening and, for the first time in several years, it was sunny and we were outdoors!

We had a great range of stalls and activities - the boat races went particularly well and got everyone wet!

Miss Patchett kept us all in check as Mistress of Ceremonies (and played lots of loud music!)

Thanks to you all, we raised just over £2000 - a record for a summer fete at Oakwood!

Big thanks to Mrs Handley-Garland, all members of the OSA Committee and everyone who helped make it a huge success!

Thank you for starting Christmas so well!

It seems really strange it still being November and our Christmas tree being up in school!

But the OSA Christmas Fair comes around as regular as clockwork and we thank everyone who came to take part...

You may have played Batak, or bought a raffle ticket, or won a bottle, or eaten candy floss, or had a hot dog, or bought a woolly hat, or seen Santa, or bought your Christmas cards, or had a coffee and a cake, or bought some presents for people!

The fair is always good fun and this year seemed busier than ever!

Thanks to all of your, and particularly all members of the Oakwood School Association, for making it a success.

The evening raised an amazing £3808 which will all come back into Oakwood Primary School to be spent on your children!

Disco-tastic!

We had our very first KS1 and KS2 Discos all on one evening tonight!

Years 1 and 2 had a brilliant time early in the evening and they particularly enjoyed Zoe's flashy new lights - have a look at the pictures!

Then, we did a swap-over, which went very smoothly, and Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 arrived...

They were even louder than KS1 and everyone had a disco-tastic time!

Thanks to everyone who helped - the OSA is very grateful! All the money raised goes into buying extras for your children at both schools!

OSA Christmas Fair

Many thanks to everyone who came to the OSA Christmas Fair - it seems a long time ago now, but the OSA Christmas Elves have been busy packing up and totting up the the money you spent on games, presents, raffles, Santa visits, hot dogs and chilli!

We are delighted to announce that the grand total raised on the evening (Drum roll....!)

£3330!

This is an amazing total, especially when times are hard, so we'd like to say a very big

Thank You...

to everyone who came. The money will be split between the two schools for the benefit of all pupils. We will let you know what we spend it on during the year!

Getting Christmassy at the OSA Fair!

A fantastic time was had by all at the OSA Christmas Fair!

As usual, there was lots to do, many things to buy, things to eat and drink and lots to win...

Santa and his helper Elf gave their usual sleigh rides around the playground, and even a slight drizzle didn't put them off. (Santa is used to inclement weather!) The reindeer were in training, so the sleigh was pulled for one evening only by a magnificent white horse.

Thanks to all the children helpers, visitors, stall holders, staff and the committee of the OSA - a grand total of £3334 was raised, which will be split between the two schools.

In the junior school, we use the money to pay for our M&M performances - the next of which is Cinderella on 4 January 2012!

Thank you all!

Miss Minchin for Headmistress?

Thanks to generous donations from the Oakwood Schools' Association, we welcomed four multi-talented performers from M&M Productions into school last Wednesday!

Our visitors not only drive and unload their own van, set up the stage, operate the sound and the lighting, but they perform an hour long show, with nearly a dozen characters - what stars!

Our show was the Little Princess, which told the story of how a girl escaped an evil headmistress with the help of her father and her friends.

Seeing high quality performances really helps children when they come to perform in assembles and plays themselves - and these are always special occasions at Oakwood!

Thanks M&M! We are looking forward to welcoming you back after Christmas!

First Day Back at School - Oh Yes IT IS!!!

You know the story of Cinderella, right?

Well, everyone had a fantastic treat this afternoon as we were joined by four superb performers from M&M Theatrical Productions who put on an excellent show for us!

There were so many songs and so many characters in the show and it was so fast-moving that it held everyone's full attention and we all joined in! (Oh no we didn't! Oh yes we did! Mr Taylor nearly had to marry Cinderella's wicked step-mother!)

M&M always keep their productions up-to-date with lots of new songs and dances, but in true panto style, the crystal slipper only fitted on Cinderella's foot and they all lived happily ever after!

Thanks to the OSA, whose donations to the school from events such as the Christmas Fair, paid for this exciting show!

Celebrating Summer!

Continuing the Country and Western theme from the Yee-Haa! Concert earlier in the week, Gill Handley-Garland, Gary Chafe and the OSA organised a fantastic Summer Fete today!

It's the first time in three years that the weather was good and we were able to hold the Fete outside!

Everyone had a brilliant time - there was so much to do, lots to buy and many, many games to have a go at! Lots of hot dogs were eaten too!

The Songsters performed and the Respect Drummers ran a workshop for everyone to have a go...

Thanks if you came along and spent some money - we'll let you know how much we raised soon!

Christmas News Round-Up... (Part 1)

It seems like a very long time ago now, but it was really good to see so many people at the OSA Christmas Fair playing the games, buying stocking fillers, winning prizes and generally getting into the festive spirit (even though it was still November!)

We thought Santa’s sleigh was better than ever this year!

In what are still hard times, when money is tight, we didn’t think we would beat last year’s total of £2800, but thanks to you, the OSA raised a new record total of…

£3537.02!

A big Thank You to you all (especially the person who gave us the 2p!) and, of course, to Gill Handley-Garland and the OSA.

The OSA will now be able to donate money to both schools in the new year.

On Friday 4 December, many parents and friends of the school were privileged to listen to our Songsters at West Quay Shopping Centre, singing Christmas Carols and entertaining shoppers!

We are always very proud to see our children representing the school so well.

Money was collected in aid of the Hampshire Autistic Society, so we were glad to play our part, as we do every year.

And finally for this part, the Southampton Schools Music Association concert took place at the Guildhall on Tuesday 8 December.
It was no surprise to us that all soloists in the Junior School section were Oakwood pupils... and the biggest junior school choir there? You guessed right again!
It was an amzing concert and really showed off the talent we have here, while getting everyone in the mood for Christmas!

(We weren't allowed to take photos! Booo!)
Roll on our Christmas performances next week!

OJS School Council get set for the Christmas Fair!

The School Council had a very busy Friday helping Mrs Handley-Garland set up for the Christmas Fair!

Tables, decorations, a helpers' rota and a very secret room all had to be organised ready for Monday's Christmas celebrations!

Everybody had a part to play in preparing for the Fair - from gathering ideas for the stalls and making posters, to organising helpers and setting up the secret room, we have had lots of fun and are looking forward to everyone enjoying the Fair on Monday!

Big Money from the OSA!

A really big THANK YOU to everyone who supported our Summer Fair, comes to the regular Discos and other OSA events!

Mrs Handley-Garland handed over a cheque for £1112.50 in assembly this morning - money which was raised at those events.

We've already spent some of this money by bringing the theatre to your children on the first day of term - a fantastic performance of Robin Hood!

Thanks again, OSA!
