Kia Ora from New Zealand!

Well, my adventures continue, and here I am in Auckland, New Zealand. (If you want to see where that is, you can look on this map. You can even zoom in and look at aerial photos!)

We went up to the very top of the Sky Tower and I'm not sure I like heights! Bears only usually climb trees...

Is it safe???

I wasn't brave enough to sit on the glass floor, but can you guess whose foot this might be...?

It was great fun, and you could see for miles! (I thought I could see Southampton, but I might have been wrong...)

(Do any Oakwood pupils know what Kia Ora means, and which language it is from? Leave me a comment and there might be a prize in September for the first one!)

Me in Japan!

Hello, Oscar here!

I am saying a very quick hello from Japan, because we didn't stay here long - just overnight on the way to New Zealand!

As you can see, Mrs Worley and Cameron were helping me with my luggage...

(It's not all mine!!)

Alla i ddim siarad Cymraeg!!

Here's Right-hand SAM, just over the border in Wales!

He's feeling happy because he's off on his holidays during the summer break, not during term time, but he's a bit worried that he can't speak any Welsh!

Not to worry, he's only here for a couple of days.

I wonder what his twin brother is up to?

SAM says: "What do you think the Welsh at the top of this post means?"

SAM and SAM say...

Here are SAM and his twin brother SAM, also having a wash for the summer holidays, this time at Mrs Handley-Garland's house.

They are both really pleased because SAM (on the left) is off around Europe with Mrs Rogers, and SAM (on the right) is off to Wales!

They're even more pleased because SAM stands for School Attendance Matters and, this year, our attendance has gone up to 95.1% which is just above our target!

Aurora won the House Attendance Cup with 95.5% attendance.

Well done, everyone!

Oscar has a Bath!

Oscar was a bit worried that he hadn't had a bath in a while and he didn't want to travel all the way to New Zealand unwashed. Someone on the plane might object.

With Mrs Worley's help...

...he had a really good bath!

He survived perfectly well and it's only a couple of days now before he goes to the other side of the world! Bon voyage, Oscar!

Right Foot, 2 Stomps...!

Year 6 celebrate their last days at Oakwood Junior School with their Prom.

All the staff at the back had tears in their eyes, partly because they were sad and partly because they were trying to do the Cha Cha Slide!

Everyone looked absolutely fantastic!

Well done, Year 6, we wish you all well as you go on your way! *

* But don't go yet!! There are still four more days, a musical to put on and a climbing wall to climb!

Sticky Fingers...

It was the very last meeting of the year for the Sticky Fingers group at lunchtime today.

Allison and Cheryl have been working with groups of children for several years now at Oakwood Junior School. They work with a group of five or six children each half term and they all prepare, cook and eat a healthy lunch together every Thursday.

All the food is fresh and the children learn about how to eat a healthy diet:

  • 5 portions of fruit and veg a day
  • Plenty of water
  • A balance of food types
  • Regular exercise

At the end of the sessions, the children's parents are invited to share the lunch...

...so here are Luc and his Dad enjoying their well-balanced, healthy lunch!

Allison and Cheryl will be back in the Autumn!

Get Safe 4 Summer

Congratulations to all the Year 5 pupils who went to Oaklands Community School today for the Get Safe 4 Summer event.

It was a great day and a chance to meet with children from other schools and lots of people who help us stay safe in the community, such as the Police, Lifeguards and officers of the St John Ambulance.

The main aim of the day was to make sure children feel safe in and around water, but they also learned about resuscitation, basic life saving and beach safety.

To get yourself ready for a Safe Summer, you can download the special Get Safe 4 Summer leaflet and watch out on Wednesday in school for the Sea Smart Beach Safety Pack which every child will get.

You can also download special desktop wallpapers for your computer!

Have a safe summer!

Oscar gets set for Summer!

Why are these three characters looking so happy?

Well, Oscar has very kindly agreed to accompany Mrs Worley to New Zealand during the summer holidays.

Colin the Kiwi is looking a little confused, as Oscar is so much bigger than him and might sit on him on the plane...

Oscar and Mrs Worley will be sending photos from their travels all the way through the summer and we hope to post some of them right here on our new school blog!

Will Oscar Bungee jump?
Will Mrs Worley?

Keep up-to-date here and leave Oscar a message!
