Year 1- The Dot

Today we ready the story 'The Dot' in Year 1. We heard about a girl called Vashti who didn't think she could draw. With a little bit of support from her teacher, she found she could!

The children were all provided with a dot on their page. They created their very own piece of art using the dot. There were so many fantastic and unique ideas. Take a look at our creations.

Thank you to Mrs Larder for your beautiful words blessing the candles.

We will miss you Year 6 - one more day!

Y6 open for business

Y6 have been hard at work on their Make 5 Grow enterprise project.

They worked hard on their business plans, pitched for their investment and have placed and received their first orders of goods. This mean that from tomorrow (Wednesday 6th June 2018) they will be open for business.

The 13 small businesses will be selling a wide variety of products at lunchtime and after school for the next 4 weeks on selected days.

Children are invited to bring in any pocket money to buy products. Happy Shopping!

Make 5 Grow

Year 6 children launched their Make 5 Grow businesses this week and have done a roaring trade!

Each Y6 child has been loaned £5 with the challenge of making their money grow. Most have pooled their money in teams but some brave souls are going it alone! 16 separate businesses have been ordering, making, baking, chilling, freezing and most importantly selling!

If you have been looking forward to buying something after school then we have to apologise. Our products have been so popular that they have sold out at lunchtime each day!

This is......Mr Taylor!

Every child has had a turn to take home our, "This Is Me Bag" over the course of the year. The bag allows each child to fill it with objects that are special to them which are then shared with the class! It's a great way to get to know each other better and celebrate the ways in which we are all different. As we've all had a turn this year, we thought we would write an invitation to Mr Taylor to ask if he might like to have a turn! Today he came in with the bag stuffed with lovely things to share with us! He even brought in his favourite food (cheese) to let us taste! Yum!

Sharing our work in Year R

We had our monthly work share and this time invited our adults in to look at our work books. It's so nice to look back at all the progress we've made!

Y6 Make 5 Grow Business Pitching day

Having worked hard over the last week to build a strong business idea, designed logos; slogans; created costing sheets and conducted product research - TODAY was the big day. Pitching day.

All thirteen groups of children stood nervously in turn, facing their classmates, business rivals and their investment dragons - hoping to get the investment needed to kick-start their business. There was a whole range of pictures, videos, spreadsheets and slideshows all in the name of earning the backing of their chosen dragon.

Whilst eleven business were awarded funding after their pitch; two businesses will have to return on Monday with an improved plan, and show the dragons they can act on the advice given. Our investors could choose 4 companies each to invest in: there were some tense moments as dragons fought to convince groups to choose them - leading to some quick heated discussions amongst team members - but the dragons didn't get all their own way.

Well done to everyone, and keep an eye out for the launch of each business!

Good luck Y6

Make 5 Grow

Year 6 children have been full of enthusiasm over the last couple of days as they get into their Make 5 Grow project - Funded by Virgin Money.

The children have created a small business and are currently planning how they will turn their £5 in to £5million. They have already met their business consultants to discuss initial ideas and are now planning in depth their business idea, and putting together their 'pitch' for Friday when they present to the Dragons for funding.

Smoothie making in Year 1.

As part of our topic, Year 1 have explored different fruits. First of all, the children had a tasting session where they discussed how tropical fruits tasted, what they looked like and how they smelt.

After this, in groups the children designed their very own smoothie choosing which ingredients to include.

Working as a group, the children chopped and prepared the food before putting it into a blender. They then tasted and evaluated their smoothies.

Year 4 Eggciting Times

It is an eggciting time in Year 4 today, as we were greeted this morning by the arrival of four chicks in the incubator.  Currently two more eggs are pipping, so we hope to have some more arrivals by the end of the day.  Keep watching the blog for a chick update.

Y4 Can Do

As Part of Y4's PSHE we have been thinking about our Growth mindset and Going for Goals. These are some half and half pictures we produced to remind our Phase of our can do attitude: 'Success comes in a can, not a cannot. Give it a try! This is a can do Phase! You can do it!'

The Day 5BK's Crayons Quit!

Thanks to 5BK who put on a great storytelling assembly this morning!

They gave us the full gen on How To Capture a Dragon , having learned the method off by heart to get the rhythms and structures of instruction writing stuck in their heads for later use!

They also performed The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers. This was a great story to showcase their dramatic talents, but also reminded us all about how we solve our disagreements and make friends again.

Busy Term Continues in Year 3.

The Spring term continues to be a busy and productive one in Year 3. As well as learning more about the Anglo-Saxons, we started our new DT sewing unit. After threading our needles and tying a secure knot in  our thread we practised our running and back stitches. We had the challenge of joining up dots on a piece of cardboard-pulling the thread so that the stitches were taut but not too tight that it made holes in the card. We think we did a great job for our first time-take a look.

Our science works on magnets continues, This week we have been carrying out an investigation to find out which magnets are the strongest. We are learning to carry out investigations like scientists-making sure they are fair tests, taking accurate measurements and recording and evaluating results.

In English we have been learning to recite the story of Beowolf, whilst in maths we have been making up our own times tables raps and songs to help us learn our tables more easily (videos to follow shortly.) In our reading sessions this week, we were treated to a very special storytelling when one of our Year 3 children from the Czech Republic shared some very special stories-reading them in her native language and then translating into English. Here's a brief snippet-as you can hear it was a great story and made us laugh.
