We all scream for Ice Cream!!
Year 5 had a chilly time in Winchester at the Top Secret Headquarters of Jude's Ice Cream...
There, Jude herself and husband Theo took us through the highly secretive process of making frozen confectionery for discerning clients all over Hampshire, the rest of the UK, cruise ships and even Dubai!
It's more complicated than you might think... (You should ask your children about the special feature of the hairnets...!)
Our tour of the factory included the manufacturing rooms and the big walk-in storage freezers!
And why are we going to an Ice Cream factory, you may ask?! Well, it's all part of our Apprentice-Style Team-Working Entrepreneurial Business Project...
We are working together in groups to create a brand new business - plans, budgets, product development, marketing etc. We're using cloud-based systems (G Suite) to share our plans in our group and work on them collaboratively... And when we're done, Jude herself will be coming to school to judge the winners...
A brilliant time was had by everyone and both Jude and Theo said how much they love Oakwood coming to the factory!
Oakwood was really privileged to be involved in Southampton City Council's Imagine the Future event today...!
Our pupil representatives boarded the Red Funnel Isle of Wight Ferry this morning (thanks to our friends at Fairisle and their minibus!) and spent the day being involved in workshops about the future of the city of Southampton.
We talked about how we could improve the lives of young people in the city and what would be the best use of the city's money...
Thanks to the City Council, Red Funnel, Bitterne Park Sixth Form, Richard Taunton College, St Anne's Sixth Form and City College for a brilliant day!

What a fantastic afternoon everyone had at the OSA Summer Fete on Friday!
It was our busiest yet, and the new Barbecue was a real hit if you were feeling peckish!
Year 3 put on a stunning performance at Central Hall in Southampton this afternoon!
They have been working hard practising and playing their instruments since they first picked them up only nine months ago!
Working with their Showcase teachers, they have learned several new pieces for the performance, including single instrument pieces and ensembles.
They also played alongside the professional musicians of Cordelectra and Philharmagic Orchestra!
The finale was In The Hall of the Mountain King, which is part of the BBC Ten Pieces Project!
(We weren't allowed to take photos in the hall, but Showcase have very kindly provided these photos - not everyone is from Oakwood!)
Our pupils are radio stars this Christmas...
BBC Radio Solent asked Oakwood pupils to be part of their Christmas celebrations by recording trailers to be played all through December!

Year 3 Musicians gave their very first public performance to parents, grandparents, younger brothers and sisters and friends on Monday!
The excellent progress they have made since first picking up their clarinets, trumpets, trombones and glockenspiels in September was plain to see.
They are well on their way to a more extensive concert at Easter and then a truly wonderful performance with musicians from our partner schools in the Summer.
(Last year, the summer concert was amazing!)

A very personal blogpost from me, on behalf of all the pupils and staff at Oakwood...
This morning we tried something a little bit daunting - Oakwood's Biggest Ever Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support...
We've done this very successfully three times before, (see how we did in 2009 and in 2012), but this morning was the first time we have done it as a primary school.

Our 60 Year 3 children, playing trombone, trumpet, glockenspiel and clarinet are in there somewhere...

Today was our Official Opening Day!
Even though we became Oakwood Primary School at midnight on 1 January, and our first day with children was 7 January, it's been the first sunny day for our special event!
Everyone, children and adults, released an Oakwood Primary School balloon to celebrate the new school. (Every balloon has a tag, so we'll wait to see which one travels the furthest! Look at a map of finds!)
We also got our youngest and oldest pupils and staff members to cut a commemorative ribbon on our new sign.
A big thank you to everyone who helped decorate and blow up balloons, and to Sainsbury's Lordshill, who donated some new books for our library!

Sing Christmas! was the first performance of The Living Lordswood Community Choir.
The choir, which was formed in October, has 35 members aged from ten to seventy who all love to sing. The audience packed into the Oakwood School hall on Saturday 14 December to hear them perform a selection of traditional and modern Christmas songs. Former pupils of Oakwood were involved - singing, reading, manning the car park and serving refreshments - and you might even spot a governor or two if you look at the photos carefully.
Admission was free but the audience were asked to donate a tin food for the Basics Bank which supports families in poverty. Forty carrier bags of food were donated!
"The choir is a real community effort," said one of the organisers. "We live locally and are delighted to be able to bring joy and hope to the neighbourhood. Our thanks to Oakwood for allowing us to use their great venue."

Our Year 3 children first picked up their musical instruments only 10 weeks ago, but this afternoon they put on their very first public performance.
Conducted by their Showcase tutors, they played several new pieces, performed in an ensemble and even gave us a Christmas carol to get us ready for the season!
What a talented group of children!
Year 6 amazed us this evening with their leavers' production called New School, New Curriculum...
They imagined what the school would be like if it were run by different members of staff, they showed us what would happen if the teddy bears took over for a day, they looked back on their time in each of the Year Groups and they said thanks you to their parents and teachers.
Along the way, we heard how the Oakwood family is getting even bigger, we were invited to share Mr Wills' passion for cakes, we heard an absolutely brilliant (well, perhaps not!) rendition of Mr McPhillimy's accent, we heard that Mr Taylor likes things TIDY and we saw a range of masks which are guaranteed to give us nightmares.
The House Captains shared their memories and told us how proud they were of their houses and their time at Oakwood.
All in all, a very poignant evening...

A little bit of showbiz was sprinkled onto Thursday evening, as the Songsters put on their show Oakwood at the Musicals!
They sang their hearts out as they took us on a musical journey through Annie, The Sound of Music, Hairspray, Oliver, My Fair Lady, Bugsy Malone and many more.
Oakwood's Songsters have become famous for their hard work and professionalism and this performance was no exception! The audience agreed wholeheartedly!
Big thanks to Miss Patchett, Mrs Larder and Mrs Vaudin for all the rehearsals!
The school councils of Oakwood Infant and Junior Schools have chosen our logo competition winners.
They chose two designs and then a designer used their ideas to come up with our new logo.
The new logo will be on uniform ready for September and will be used by Oakwood Infant School and Oakwood Junior School.
If the two schools become a primary school, then the new school will use the logo too.
Congratulations to Sam, Ben and Ollie on their winning ideas!
