Y4 Music Lessons
We have been learning to play the trumpet and clarinet in our music lessons. It can test our resilience when we don't quite get it right but we have strength and we will never give up :)

On Monday afternoon we were visited by members of the Welsh National Opera to lead a workshop for those of us who are lucky enough to be watching them perform at the Mayflower Theatre next week.
We learned all about the skills needed to be a good opera singer and the orchestra that will be performing with them. We were then taught a song from Mozart's 'The Magic Flute' that we will be singing alongside the Welsh National Opera and other schools next week. Take a look at some of our practice:-
Year 1's music of the week was ' Carnival of the animals'. We listened to the music discussed the tempo and pitch for each section of the piece of music. We then discussed what the animals might be doing? How they might be doing it? what their bodies look like? This links to our science work as well all about animals.

Our final performances were yesterday and Years 5 and 6 gave us a fantastically Christmassy medley. It was a real showcase of talents, with musicians playing, beautiful modern and traditional songs being sung, a little bit of French and even the odd turkey thrown in!
Thank you Years 5 and 6 for entertaining us so professionally!

Years 3 and 4 kicked off our Key Stage 2 Christmas performances on Monday, and what a way to start! Their theme was 'The Christmas Tardis' and they took us on a journey through time and space to learn about Christmas through time.
Thank you Years 3 and 4 for a fabulous show and for sharing lots of your amazing talents!

Year 6 have been working hard in their music lessons to compose a piece of music in groups that they think represents 'the sounds of the factory'. They were shown pictures of various pieces of machinery and had to create a journey of sound around the different machines using repetition and pattern.
They are still building their pieces, but here's a couple of them so far.
We were lucky enough to have Alex and his team from Showcase perform live for Key Stage 2 in assembly this week. What a fun, entertaining and inspirational start to our morning! Thank you Showcase!
P.S They will be coming back soon for Key Stage 1 - watch this space!

It's that time of year again!
Everyone in Year 6 has come back to school one last time to say goodbye and good luck to their friends. (And maybe shed a tear or two!)
We will be adding to the Year 6 Prom photo album during the evening.

Our Year 6 Pupils say their first goodbye to Oakwood, remembering and celebrating some of their favourite events.
A brilliant production, with emotional songs ("When I Grow Up" made Mr Taylor cry!) and excellent acting!
Thank you for entertaining us, and a really big Thank You to all the ex "Mr Taylors" who turned up to reprise their role from previous years! (That made the real Mr Taylor cry as well!)

Last week saw the return of the KS1 Oakwood's Got Talent Final!
The finalists in Key Stage 1 performed a variety of acts in front of an audience and panel of judges.
Congratulations to all of the acts who made it to the final.
What a great show it was!

This is just a little recording made after one lesson. We learned some music notation, including rests, to perform different rhythms together.
