Y6 Prom
It's that time of year again!
Everyone in Year 6 has come back to school one last time to say goodbye and good luck to their friends. (And maybe shed a tear or two!)
We will be adding to the Year 6 Prom photo album during the evening.

A really emotional moment as Year R children present their specially made candle holders to Year 6.
Year 6 reprised "When I Grow Up" and made Mr Taylor cry again!
Thank you to Mrs Larder for your beautiful words blessing the candles.
We will miss you Year 6 - one more day!

Our Year 6 Pupils say their first goodbye to Oakwood, remembering and celebrating some of their favourite events.
A brilliant production, with emotional songs ("When I Grow Up" made Mr Taylor cry!) and excellent acting!
Thank you for entertaining us, and a really big Thank You to all the ex "Mr Taylors" who turned up to reprise their role from previous years! (That made the real Mr Taylor cry as well!)

The aliens have landed at Oakwood!
They came to find out all about humans and learned a very important Christmas story along the way.
Well done Years 1 and 2 for a fantastic performance!

Year R have treated us to a fantastic first Christmas performance over the past two days.
They told the story of "Whoops-A-Daisy Angel", who keeps getting things wrong - her halo is wonky, her dress is a mess and she is just so clumsy!
However, she ends up with the most important job of all - and does it brilliantly!

We've had a very busy term, and we've put on a lot of events already...
(Our Macmillan Coffee Morning raised £1132 and Year 6's Victorian Fayre raised £665...)
...so we decided to keep things a little more low key for Children in Need this year.
Nonetheless, our small bits of loose change managed to raise £245.48, so thank you very much...
The BBC Children in Need appeal raised over £50 million on Friday evening, with more to come in, and has raised over £1 billion since it first started in 1980.
Oakwood is proud to have played its part. Thank You!

The morning after the night before...!
Thanks so much to all parents, staff and, of course, our leaving Y6 pupils for making the prom a truly memorable evening.
We've tried to make the photos a bit easier to look at this year, so click on the image below for the slideshow! (Use the cursor keys on your keyboard, or swipe left to move through the photos!)

Year 6 told a story of intrigue and sabotage for their final performance to Oakwood today.
In a story within a story, as they prepared to put on their production of Grease, their plans were thrown into disarray by a rival local headteacher who hid the vital USB stick!
Without the photos of them when they were younger, how would they make their parents emotional at the show?
Well, as you might expect, all was well (and no-one from Fairisle was harmed during the making of this musical!)
(Here's the unrehearsed cool-down at the end of the afternoon performance! Nice moves, Mrs Hennen!)
And here's the CarPool Karaoke in Mrs McDonald's Picanto... (on the way to Fairisle!)
And the T-Birds workshop...!

Year 2 would like to say a BIG Thank-You to all the parents and visitors that were able to come to our Year 2 Roald Dahl celebration morning. The children have been working hard this half term and enjoyed sharing their work with you!

The children in Y1 have been learning about Chinese New Year and have made dragon puppets. They were practising their colouring, cutting and folding skills. Don't they look great!!

We would like to say a huge Thank You to everyone who supported the OSA Christmas Fair this year!
All the hard work on behalf of the OSA Committee and the helpers (including our wonderful pupil helpers) was rewarded by great attendance and everyone having lots of fun.
It really got everyone into the Christmas spirit - and everyone was impressed by our GIANT SANTA!
The grand total raised was just over £4000! Thank you!
Thanks especially to Mrs Handley-Garland (Chair of the OSA), Mr Chafe (our treasurer) and Mr Barrett (who helped make sure the school was back up and running the next morning!)

Today all Year 2 have celebrated the end of a their Roald Dahl topic, Just Peachy. They have worked incredibly hard to write fact files about Roald Dahl, learn about mini-beasts and their habitats, do sketching and collaging in art and finally they have written amazing stories in the style of Roald Dahl. The stories have a theme of magic and good and bad characters and all their stories are very original.
The children have earned ‘Dahl Awards’ for various pieces of work they have completed.
The children had the opportunity to share their work with their parents and have cooked some delicious food which is from some of Roald Dahl’s stories. Can you guess which food is from which story?
Look on the next blog post for the answers.

Oakwood Songsters put on a very special performance in a very special venue to help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Young Voices...!
It's four years since we went to Young Voices last time, and it was even better this time.
Everyone had worked so hard, not just rehearsing songs and actions, but also booking buses and ordering t-shirts!
We performed alongside our friends from Fairisle Junior School and Showcase Performance Company, and together with over 7,000 other Young Voices from schools across the country.
We also shared the spotlight with Urban Strides, The Beat Box Collective, Laura Wright and Tom Billington.
A very special and inspiring day!
Well done everyone!

Elm Class put on a jungle-tastic performance on Tuesday morning for their parents and friends!
They told the story of Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae with great performances from the whole range of animals.
Because it was Gerald the Giraffe's goal to dance, Elm class also told us about what they want to achieve as they are Going for Goals!
Thank you for entertaining us, Elm Class!

Thanks to Mrs Lyons, her team in the kitchen, and all the lunchtime staff, everyone was able to have a scrummy Christmas dinner today!
Once again, the school offered dinner for free to all pupils, not just those in Key Stage 1, and nearly everyone took up the offer - the kitchen cooked over 450 servings!
There was a traditional roast turkey meal, with lost of choice for dessert, including a proper Christmas Pud and custard.
The jokes in the crackers were the only things which were bad!
(What do you call someone who makes clothes for rabbits?*)
(Where would you find chilli beans?**)
(Who hides in the bakery at Christmas?***)
We look forward to the final event in our Christmas Calendar tomorrow - our Christmas Service.

Santa took time out of this very busy time of year to join us in Celebration Assembly this morning. He surprised the children and Mrs Vanes by joining in and handing out the many certificates and badges we had....
Thank you Santa and to our guests who enjoyed it just as much as the children!
Years 1 and 2 entertained us yesterday and today with their performance of A Miracle in Town!
The nativity is an age-old story of love, peace, acceptance and tolerance - just as important today as it was all those years ago in Bethlehem.
The signing and acting were wonderful and we particularly liked how parents, grandparents and friends joined in at the end too!
WELL DONE, Years 1 and 2!

Thank you to Years 3 and 5, who told us a Christmas story today that perhaps not many of you know...
It was the story of how the carol, Stille Nacht (or Silent Night, as we know it) came to be written.
It all took place in an Austrian town, and the beautiful words of the clergyman's poem and the organist's guitar came together with... (because it's an Oakwood play...!) mice, Vindaloo, Dean Martin, The Voice, a Carol Mega-mix and Band Aid. It may (or may not!) be a true story.
Of course, the carol was ready in time for the nativity scene, and was sung beautifully by the children.
THANK YOU, Years 3 and 5!
