Y6 Osmington Bay 2021 - Part 2

Part 2 of the Osmington Bay experience!

Year 6's Victorian Day

Year 6 have had a wonderful day today, recreating a Victorian school!

The morning began with a 'drill' (PE for Victorians!), followed by the children entering their Victorian classroom for the morning. They learned so much about how school worked in the Victorian era: fingernail inspections, arithmetic, handwriting and posture lessons. They even discovered the fascinating history of the potato! Why not ask a Year 6 what they learned today?

The children were brilliant at getting into character - we were very proud of them!

Dress to Express

Last Week was Children's Mental Health Week and to support this Oakwood had a 'Dress to Express' Day in each year group. We can all express ourselves in the way we dress, showing everyone who we are and what we like. We accompanied that by expressing ourselves in other ways and being creative. Can you spot any of these in the photos?

Y6 'come Dine with Me' challenge

Last week, Y6 were set the challenge of researching, cooking, presenting (and eating) a 3 course meal in small groups.

Each course had to be based on a particular main ingredient (starter - peppers, main - salmon and dessert - pineapple) and should be a meal enough for two. The groups divided in to pairs and worked together to produce some excellent cooking. They then tested and scored each of the course their group had cooked.

We had a wonderful range of culinary delights including: Stuffed peppers, Asian steamed salmon, salmon pasta, pan fried salmon with lemon and rosemary drizzle, pineapple cheesecake and pineapple upside down cake.

Whilst not cooking, children learned about the journey that food goes on as it travels from 'farm to fork' and produced a recipe book of Y6 family favourites which are now on display in the library.

Y6 and the Ancient Greeks

This half term, Y6 are learning about Ancient Greece.
They have already looked at where the Greeks fall on their History timeline and explored the roles of women during the this time (nearly 3500 years ago). But yesterday, the children investigated the clothing that would have been worn and modelled it in a portrait competition. Wealthy families during the Greek era celebrated and showed off their wealth by commissioning pieces of artwork to adorn their homes.
Have a look at the pictures below to see how they got on...
