Y4 Ancient Greece Day

Year 4 had a great day last half term celebrating all of their learning about Ancient Greece. The children were asked to bring in a home project all about Ancient Greece. They did a brilliant job and were very brave standing in front of the class for their presentations. We also recapped everything we have learned this half term and made some Ancient Greek recipes. Did you know the Ancient Greeks didn't have tomatoes?

Year 1 Smoothies, Day 1

Today half the classes went into the kitchen armed with their aprons and their ingredients lists. They worked together as a team to chop and prepare the fruit and then took turns using the blenders. Taste testing then commenced and most were deemed to be delicious! A few (mainly the ones that had carrot in) were given mediocre reviews as they were a bit chewy! Next Friday the other children will be having their turns, too.

Y5 DT - What could be Healthier

Following on from their taste testing of sauces last week, Y5 pupils made their own alterations to a 'Basic Bolognese' recipe with the aim of making it 'Healthier'. Some choose a range to add a range of veg, some went for low fat alternatives to beef mince and others...well others threw caution to the wind and made some questionable choices! They seemed to enjoy it though!

Take a look at how they got on.

Twisted Tales Recipes

Year 2 have been learning some twisted tales and learned that The Big Bad Wolf wanted to bake something as an apology for his terrible behaviour. So, our home learners have been very creative and created recipes for him to follow and have even been cooking up a storm themselves! Look at how delicious these look! Mrs McInally was even inspired by all the good work at home and baked a little something herself, can you guess which one is hers?

Y6 'come Dine with Me' challenge

Last week, Y6 were set the challenge of researching, cooking, presenting (and eating) a 3 course meal in small groups.

Each course had to be based on a particular main ingredient (starter - peppers, main - salmon and dessert - pineapple) and should be a meal enough for two. The groups divided in to pairs and worked together to produce some excellent cooking. They then tested and scored each of the course their group had cooked.

We had a wonderful range of culinary delights including: Stuffed peppers, Asian steamed salmon, salmon pasta, pan fried salmon with lemon and rosemary drizzle, pineapple cheesecake and pineapple upside down cake.

Whilst not cooking, children learned about the journey that food goes on as it travels from 'farm to fork' and produced a recipe book of Y6 family favourites which are now on display in the library.

Year 1 Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon at their Mad Hatter's Tea Party.  As part of Year 1's history they had been learning about Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland.  The children were asked to make a 'mad' hat for their home learning project and brought them in to wear at their very own tea party inspired by the book.  The children decorated cakes they had made and enjoyed eating them whilst watching the film version of the story of Alice in Wonderland.

To introduce our new 'Superhero' topic, Year 2 spent the day all dressed up as their favourite superhero. We showed these off on our catwalk runway and danced to Superman.

The children then enjoyed more superhero themed activities, including making their own marshmellow superheroes.

In the afternoon, each child struck a pose over our superhero display, flying through the sky.

Which is your favourite superhero and why?
