Year 6's Victorian Day

Year 6 have had a wonderful day today, recreating a Victorian school!

The morning began with a 'drill' (PE for Victorians!), followed by the children entering their Victorian classroom for the morning. They learned so much about how school worked in the Victorian era: fingernail inspections, arithmetic, handwriting and posture lessons. They even discovered the fascinating history of the potato! Why not ask a Year 6 what they learned today?

The children were brilliant at getting into character - we were very proud of them!

We had a fantastic day completing our non-stop 15 minutes of activity for our Groundforce Move-a-Thon. Thank you to everyone who managed to collect sponsorship money - all of this will go towards our plans for improving our school grounds!

A big thank you to TMC who supported us with the day and made it lots of fun!

Year 1 Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon at their Mad Hatter's Tea Party.  As part of Year 1's history they had been learning about Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland.  The children were asked to make a 'mad' hat for their home learning project and brought them in to wear at their very own tea party inspired by the book.  The children decorated cakes they had made and enjoyed eating them whilst watching the film version of the story of Alice in Wonderland.

OSA Christmas Fair

The OSA Christmas Fair was a brilliant community event once again! Of course we want it to be a successful fundraiser (we'll let you know how much we raised soon!), but the most important things was that it was so well attended, and it was a reminder of just how lovely our community of children, parents and staff is. Everyone had a smile on their face! (Spot yourself in the video!)

Thanks to every one of you for the part you played in making it so. Special thanks as usual to the OSA Committee, particularly Gill and Gary, who go out of their way to make sure the whole thing comes together, Julie and Kelly in the kitchen, and to Martyn and the cleaning team for getting everything spick and span again.

(Thank you to Lidl for providing the food!)

Oakwood from the Air!

Many thanks to Steve Trent, one of our parents, who came to take a whole school photo with his drone on Friday!

While he was up there, he took some amazing video! (We hope he'll be able to come back in the summer when the weather's better!)

Children In Need

We've had a very busy term, and we've put on a lot of events already...

(Our Macmillan Coffee Morning raised £1132 and Year 6's Victorian Fayre raised £665...)

...so we decided to keep things a little more low key for Children in Need this year.

Nonetheless, our small bits of loose change managed to raise £245.48, so thank you very much...

The BBC Children in Need appeal raised over £50 million on Friday evening, with more to come in, and has raised over £1 billion since it first started in 1980.

Oakwood is proud to have played its part. Thank You!

We promised, you delivered...Ms Dowle gets gunged!

Year 3 and 4 were challenged to get 40 logs in the final few weeks of term with the promise of gunging Ms Dowle if they were successful. Well done Year 3 and 4 you smashed the target and achieved over 50 logs! Unfortunately for Ms Dowle this meant being covered with a rather smelly gunge...

Superhero Day in Year 2

The children all dressed up for superhero day and did various activities.

They had walked down a "runway" to show off their costumes and had a special superhero photo shoot.
