The children all dressed up for superhero day and did various activities.
They had walked down a "runway" to show off their costumes and had a special superhero photo shoot.

Year R's latest topic has been all about 'Space Adventures' and we have learned all about space and its inhabitants.
We began our topic with a strange message from the aliens giving us instructions to make them some pants and it finished with another message, but from Mr Taylor this time, asking us to write him a letter to tell him what we have learned.
Along the way we have had lots of fun making straw blown aliens, building our own role play, making moon mud and ice craters, alien dancing, space music making, marbling solar systems and much much more.
We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about space, bring on the next topic.
The children in Year 1 have designed and made their own shoebox theatre based on a traditional tale of their choice. Once made the children enjoyed performing their show to their friends.

This half term, Year 1 have been comparing their local area with Kenya in Africa. They have made comparisons between the different countries including the houses, animals, food, schools, climate and seasons.
The children were very excited when they had the opportunity to go on a virtual African adventure to immerse themselves in African culture. They had the chance to find different animals through their binoculars on safari, hear the various noises that the animals make, see a traditional African dance and even play some African drums.
Once they had returned, the children wrote letters to friends and family telling them all about their amazing adventure.

The children in Year 1 have got their work cut out after discovering their role play area in such a mess!
However clues had been left such as spilled porridge, a necklace with a "G" on it, a black cloak, red ribbons and a messy bed! Who could have done this?
The children have began to investigate; writing check lists, discussing who this could be with each other as well as searching elsewhere for further clues and escape routes.
It was requested by the children to view CCTV footage to help and have launched our next topic...
How to catch a porridge thief!

On Friday Year 1 were invited to bring in a favourite toy for their very own Toy Adventure!
During the day the children had the opportunity to talk about their toys and introduce them to the class and the toys were able to meet up with other toys in role play.
It was unfortunate that the toys couldn't go outside to explore with their owners, as the weather was so wet, but that did not stop them having fun.
The toys were able to play parachute games with the children and they even completed an obstacle course around the hall which included.... crossing a "bridge" over a river, going over hurdles, under the "rainbows", between the "bushes", balancing along a "snake", as well as jumping in and out of "puddles" which were more recognisable as hoops!
With a little bit of imagination a real toy adventure took place. I wonder which activity they enjoyed most?

Year 4 have been transported back to the Roman era today. In fine Roman costume, we have been soldiers eating porridge (lumpy of course), marching in our legion and attempting to recreate a tortoise maneuver. We have learned all about the table manners of the Romans, which are not the table manners we expect from our children today and then eaten some stew using a Roman recipe. After all the hard training and eating our Year 4's required a bath in the public baths, using drama and imagination to learn about the strigil and different areas of a Roman bath. Finally, they were fit for some entertainment at the nearest amphitheatre, where the Gladiators put on an excellent show.

We have all had lots of fun exploring our new environment in Year 1. We have had to get used to some different routines but have coped amazingly.
We are all looking forward to the year ahead and the challenges that it presents.
Don't we look grown up!
