In preparation for Year 2 moving into Year 3 the children had a closer look at their new classroom and sketched their observations in their sketch books.

It seems only a little while since they left, but a number of ex-Oakwood pupils came back today with their teacher, Mr Bettis, to tell our Y6 children all about life in secondary school at Romsey. Romsey School Open Evening is next Thursday - look out for their prospectus which comes out next week.
We couldn't resist one final Blog picture!
The morning after the night before...!
Thanks so much to all parents, staff and, of course, our leaving Y6 pupils for making the prom a truly memorable evening.
We've tried to make the photos a bit easier to look at this year, so click on the image below for the slideshow! (Use the cursor keys on your keyboard, or swipe left to move through the photos!)

Year 6 told a story of intrigue and sabotage for their final performance to Oakwood today.
In a story within a story, as they prepared to put on their production of Grease, their plans were thrown into disarray by a rival local headteacher who hid the vital USB stick!
Without the photos of them when they were younger, how would they make their parents emotional at the show?
Well, as you might expect, all was well (and no-one from Fairisle was harmed during the making of this musical!)
(Here's the unrehearsed cool-down at the end of the afternoon performance! Nice moves, Mrs Hennen!)
And here's the CarPool Karaoke in Mrs McDonald's Picanto... (on the way to Fairisle!)
And the T-Birds workshop...!

As Year 3 think about moving on into their new classes, we decided to think about all those things that have made us a great team this year. We then put our science knowledge to the test and worked in teams to take part in the 'Ultimate' paper plane competition. Children worked in teams to build a fleet of four planes to fly in the four different rounds of the competition. These were:- the 'aim for the bullseye' TARGET round where the aim was to get as close to the target as possible; the 'we're going down Fred' HANG-TIME round where the teams had to keep their plane in the air for the longest amount of time; the 'keep it on the road' ACCURACY round where the teams had to try to land their plane on a landing strip in the middle of a straight path and lastly the 'gimme all you got' DISTANCE round where the goal was to fly their plane as far away from the starting line as possible. The winning group were the $$$ group and lots of fun was had by all with lots of great teamwork.

We have all had lots of fun exploring our new environment in Year 1. We have had to get used to some different routines but have coped amazingly.
We are all looking forward to the year ahead and the challenges that it presents.
Don't we look grown up!

This week Miss Gardiner was very lucky to visit some of the new Beech Class children at their homes to see what they enjoyed doing outside of school and today the children came in with their families to see what their new class will be like.
It is nearly time for the children to start school properly and we are all very excited to get going with our new topics.
Year 6 were visited by an old pupil today who came to share his expertise on the guitar. Four lucky pupils (including Ms Dowle) were lucky enough to have a guitar lesson where we learnt how to pluck the tune to Mission Impossible. We had lots of fun and now feel inspired to learn the guitar ourselves. A big thank you to Daniel and his tutor from Redbridge.
During transfer day the new Y6 children got to experience life in their new classrooms and spend time in their new classes.
There were lots of questions about the big issues of Y6. Knapp House, English and Maths Sets and of course SATs were all hot topics. After question time children were set the task of finishing a landscape picture by sketching (half of it had been removed and given to someone else).
After lunch each class tackled a range of team building challenges, which had been designed to test their problem solving, communication, and personal skills. All the classes managed to complete the activities successfully, but there were some groups in particular who did very well.
They will certainly need their skills when they come back to school in September as fully fledged Y6 pupils.

Year 5 and 6 had an utterly amazing time watching 'Chicken', an original and thought provoking play written by one of the drama teachers at Oasis.
The play taught us a valuable lesson about road safety. The cast consisted of four students from Oasis - one of whom was a former Oakwood pupil. Even though there were only four actors on stage, they cleverly manipulated scenes and represented more than one character.
It was a flawless, professional performance that not only made us think but made us laugh too. We'd give it a 5 star rating and encourage all 8-12 year olds to go and watch it - it might just save your lives!

What an exciting day Year 6 had at Oasis Academy, Lordshill yesterday.
Along with several other schools in the federation, the Year 6 pupils visited the academy to experience just a small taster of life at secondary school. Take a look at all the fun they had!
