Making Fossils
For our 'Dinosaur Week' we have been making fossils in the Y3 Bubble.
The Y3 Hedgehog bubble had a go at 'forced perspective' chalk art to say thank you to all the NHS and Key Worker families at our school.
WOW!
It is week 2 of home learning and once again we have been bowled over with all the hard work and commitment to your learning. We are so impressed with your dedication and excited to see all the fabulous activities you have been undertaking. It is especially lovely to see all the enjoyment and fun you are having.
Can we just say a BIG thank you for taking the time to send in all the photos and videos-it really does put a smile on our faces and inspires us all to keep being our Oakwood best. I am sure there are going to be lots of house points waiting to be stamped on cards when we all get back together.
Please all have a happy and safe Easter. We look forward to seeing all of your Easter Home Learning projects.
Take a look at all the fabulous work you have been up to this week.
3LM had a fabulous local walk today, despite the awful weather.😱
Our Geographers were in small groups, observing and recording man-made and natural features of our local area. We also had a particular focus on identifying things that definitely should not be there.
The children were impeccably behaved, energetic and very enthusiastic. They were also a little damp! But this did not stop them!
They were genuinely shocked at how much litter was around, ruining the aesthetics of the local environment and causing possible danger to animals and humans alike.
We talked about how we could encourage the local community or local council to help reduce rubbish and repair overgrown areas such as Goldcrest pond to encourage wildlife. We also discussed how positive intervention could help globally by recycling the plastic and cans we saw.
At a later date, children will be producing a short persuasive and emotive speech about the litter issue (and other issues) so watch this space!

Year 3 performed in their very fist Music on the Map Concert today. They wowed us with their time keeping, rhythm and musicality as they played their instruments live and as a whole orchestra. Well done Year 3!
In order to have a little more practice working with wire and consider the placement of joints, Year 3 had a little Ninja fun today. They used pipe cleaners, straws and beads to create their own Ninja figures. Take a look:-
As part of our study on artists who were influenced by what they witnessed in WW2, Year 3 have been studying the incredible artwork of the Swiss painter and sculptor Alberto Giacometti. Take a look at what we have produced so far.

In the final week of last half-term, Year Three carried out a detailed survey of the local area. We compared different areas by counting the housing, traffic and wild-life considering what artificial changes we thought were positive and negative.
We also posted our letters to the elected Prime Minister (to be opened on the 10th June) in which we explained what we liked about our country and our ideas for an improved future!

We had smashing weather and great fun for two days at Fairthorne Manor. Fears were conquered, friends were made and challenges were overcome! We are really proud of the good behaviour and cooperation demonstrated by the whole group.

We were inspired by online maths raps, so we decided to write our own. Teach your friends, your parents or your dog!
