We are so impressed with your dedication and excited to see all the fabulous activities you have been undertaking. It is especially lovely to see all the enjoyment and fun you are having.
Can we just say a BIG thank you for taking the time to send in all the photos and videos-it really does put a smile on our faces and inspires us all to keep being our Oakwood best. I am sure there are going to be lots of house points waiting to be stamped on cards when we all get back together.
Please all have a happy and safe Easter. We look forward to seeing all of your Easter Home Learning projects.
Take a look at all the fabulous work you have been up to this week.
Our topic this half term has been 'Once Upon A Time'. We learned alot about an author called Lewis Carroll who wrote a story called 'Alice's adventures in wonderland'. We found out that Lewis actually wrote the stories for an Alice who has been buried in Lyndhurst Hampshire. We decided in honour of his stories we would have our own wonderful Mad Hatters Tea Party.

Year 1's music of the week was ' Carnival of the animals'. We listened to the music discussed the tempo and pitch for each section of the piece of music. We then discussed what the animals might be doing? How they might be doing it? what their bodies look like? This links to our science work as well all about animals.

Year 1 had so much fun trying to make some elephant's toothpaste using dry yeast and hydrogen peroxide. The children predicted what they thought would happen when everything had been mixed together.
Year 1 welcomed Year 4 to class to look at the incredible Home Learning projects they had produced. The children had made some superb robots; some had specific functions like a Cooking bot or had special features such as flashing lights. Amazing rockets of all shapes and sizes were also on display in the Home Learning gallery. Great job Year 1.

Willow Class enjoyed their scooter training with Jenny Babey from SUSTRANS!
As part of the plastic free day year 1 decided to research the causes and effects of littering. We learnt lots about sorting recycling, reducing our waste, re-using things instead of throwing them away, air pollution and garden waste care. We made videos in our groups to help promote awareness for this serious issue.
This half term Y1 have been learning about the different continents around the world. They put on a performance for their friends and family to see all of the wonderful things they have been doing.

Cedar class went on a trip to Testwood Lakes last half term. The children were taking part in activities linked to their English and Science. The story of The Three Little Pigs took the children on a magical journey to investigate different materials to build protective houses for the pigs. We looked at straw, hay, sticks, stones and clay. The children also took part in a 'waste free lunch' competition to see which class had the least amount of rubbish in their lunches. Cedar class had 10g per person which was amazing!
Year 1 have been looking at fruits around the world. They have also been reading a story called 'Handa's Surprise' that talks about 7 fruits from Africa. Inspired by this the children created fruit pizzas using some of the fruit from Handa's Surprise.

Willow class had a super sunny day trip to Testwood Lakes on Monday. The children were in charge of building houses for the three Little Pigs, using straw, sticks, stone and clay. The children worked brilliantly together in their teams to build the houses so that the pigs could stay warm and dry and safe from the Big Bad Wolf. Willow class rose to all the challenges that faced them and were a credit to the school.

Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon at their Mad Hatter's Tea Party. As part of Year 1's history they had been learning about Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland. The children were asked to make a 'mad' hat for their home learning project and brought them in to wear at their very own tea party inspired by the book. The children decorated cakes they had made and enjoyed eating them whilst watching the film version of the story of Alice in Wonderland.
