YR Leaf Man

The children in Year R have really enjoyed the story Leaf Man. They were inspired by the beautiful illustrations and have had a go at creating their own leaf man pictures with the fallen autumn leaves and other natural items that they have found such as sticks, conkers and acorns.

The children had a lot of fun making their pictures. What other pictures could you create?

Oakwood Groundforce Day

On Wednesday we were joined by volunteers from the Ordnance Survey and some willing parent helpers to dig, cut, chop, pull, push, heave, jump away from frogs, sweat and generally work every muscle they have to prepare some of our outdoor areas for the start of something new. We are so thankful to each and everyone of them, without their hard work we would not be where we are now.

Over the next few months classes will develop their areas, spend the money we raised from our Move'athon and our donation from The Barker Mills Foundation. There may even be another Groundforce day! Ask your child about their area for more information.

Year 1 Willow Trip To Testwood Lakes

Willow class had a super sunny day trip to Testwood Lakes on Monday.  The children were in charge of building houses for the three Little Pigs, using straw, sticks, stone and clay.  The children worked brilliantly together in their teams to build the houses so that the pigs could stay warm and dry and safe from the Big Bad Wolf.  Willow class rose to all the challenges that faced them and were a credit to the school.

Oakwood in Bloom, Amazing Art

Year 5 have been busy artists the last couple of days. They have worked on several skills to each produce a fantastic final piece.
- Firstly, we looked at the work of several artists including: David Bomberg, William Daniels, Georgia O'Keefe and Alex Katz. We used the zone of relevance to describe them and wrote a short descriptive piece about the paintings for a blind observer.
- Next we used our photography skills (on the ipads) to take a photo around Oakwood to inspire our Oakwood in Bloom final piece.
- We then used natural materials from outside to make a natural colour palette.
- From our photos we did an observational sketch.
- Then we did some colour mixing using the paint to find the colour shades we wanted to use on our final piece.
- Finally we set to work on our final piece.

They did amazingly and produced some work to be really proud of!

Yesterday, Year R had a very different kind of visitor.

Who would have thought we would have something like this living in our outdoor area.

Luckily no Mrs Cox's were harmed!
