Final Club of the Month

KS2 children have taken part in the final Club of the Month in the last few days.

Richard, from Romsey and Abby Tennis Club, and his friend Spongebob, have spent some time with us to try and help us find the next Andy Murray.

There were definitely a few children with potential, so make sure you use the summer sun to find a local tennis court and get serving!

April Club of the Month

Today was Club of the Month day for KS2. This meant dancing shoes were needed!

Solent University bought their dance mat equipment to school for the day and children jumped, tapped and twisted their way through some routines.

A Massive well done to Matias who clocked a mighty 81.41, the top score in the school by far! The closest to him was Mr Wills, who topped the teachers competition with 75.02.

January Club of the Month

Friday saw the first 'Club of the Month' for 2015.

We welcomed Waterside Table Tennis club, based in Totton, to school for the first time. Colin French, the club chairman and development officer and Adam Proszko, the head coach, spend the day showing KS2 just how easy it is to start playing table tennis and how much enjoyment can be had from this extremely social sport.

Waterside Table Tennis Club is one of the top clubs in the South of England and has a huge purpose built facility at Testwood which can host 20 full size table.

Children brought home a flyer on Friday after their sessions on how they, and parents, can get involved with playing table tennis. They have also offered Oakwood pupils and families a free first session at the club to try it out.

If you want to you can find out more.

December Club of the Month

What a week for Sport!

This week all of our KS2 children have had a fun swimming session at the recently refurbished Oaklands Swimming Pool. Although the pool isn't open to the public until sometime in the new year the children have had a sneak peak at the improvements.

Our October Club of the Month

Years 5&6 took part in our October Club of the Month today.

In a slight change to our normal Club of the Month programme each of our classes received a full hour lesson today from Dean, one of the golf pros from Chilworth Golf Club.

They had to brave the October rain and wind, but the children completed a number of golfing challenges under the expert instruction before finishing with a 'driving' competition.

Y3&4 are looking forward to their session soon.

September Club of the Month

The new year 3 children had a great welcome to KS2 last week as they experienced their first Club of the Month.

The Y3 children, as well as all the other KS2 children, were put through their Karate Kicks and punches paces (and shouting) by Rachel from Sama Karate.

Rachel holds a Karate session for both KS1 and KS2 every week right here at Oakwood. If your child enjoyed their session then why not drop in to the office to see about booking a place for them to continue the sport of discipline.

Our Final KS2 Club of the Month

Wednesday and Thursday was our last Club of the Month for 2013-14.

All KS2 children got to have a go at indoor caving (outdoors). Children suited up in overalls, helmets and blindfold to take on the winding course through the adventure play area. Crawling, sliding and banding their way along the course.

All the children loved having a go, and I'm told it was much more difficult than it looked!

Take a look at the pictures from Y3 and 4.

KS2 Star Cycling Demo

The Summer Term began with a bang for KS2 yesterday. They were visited by Grant Fielder, 2004 Free Ride Mountain Bike World Champion, who put on a stunt display in an attempt to inspire more children to get on their bike this summer.

Grant will also be running an after school club at Oakwood this Term. 'Star Cycling' builds on basic cycling skills and provides a range of exciting cycle challenges based away from roads. Please see the clubs letter this term for more information.

Our March Club of the Month

On Friday we had our March club of the Month.

We were visited for the day by Stacey from 'The Arts Factory', a Theatre company for children in Southampton. As part of their training they teach: acting, singing and a whole range of dance mediums. However for our club of the month Stacey was just giving us an insight into some of the performance dace they teach.

Each of the classes really enjoyed their short session with her and were already talking about putting their new moves into action at the next school disco!

If your child would like to take part in some more sessions they are held on Saturdays at Mountbatten and Wednesdays at the Ageas Bowl - please see their website for further details.
