Knapp House: Day 4

We have wi-fi again!

Yesterday was another exciting day, although we did have to wake up a few rooms before breakfast!
Surfing, coastal walking, paddle boating and a disco.

The bag packing has already begun this morning with more lost socks being waved around than we know what to do with. Then it's on to the last activity of the week before a quick shower, lunch and the trip home.

We hope to see you all around 4-5pm. We will keep you updated via the school twitter page.

Knapp House: Day 3

It looks like the weather here in Devon has turned! It's been reasonably dry since we arrived on Monday morning but with a few showers it's been quite cold. However, since lunchtime, the sun has been shining!

We've had another great day and its been filled with mud, water and fun. We hope you enjoy our pictures.

Knapp House: Day 2

There were a few blurry eyes this morning at the breakfast table after a ....delayed start to the first night's sleep! But there was no time for a rest today! It was Climbing/abseiling, Ringo rides, Canoe Drill and initiative exercises and peddle cart races today.

The children are enjoying their free time (and the tuck shop) and have been spending time with new friends from other schools and making the most of the reasonable weather and the fantastic site here at Knapp House.

It's another action packed day tomorrow!

Knapp House: Day 1

The journey down to Knapp House couldn’t have been better: no traffic and not too warm. Once the children had settled into their rooms and had a tour of the site, they jumped straight into the activities. Depending on their groups, the children completed either crate stack and tunnelling or tree hoist and tree traverse for their afternoon activity. After the evening meal (Pasta Bolognese, hot dogs, ratatouille, salad and chips) all of Oakwood’s groups made the short walk down to Appledore Quay for a spot of crab fishing and RIB rides.

It’s been a long day but the children have had a great start to their week. Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Knapp House Day 3

It's been another terrifically busy day in Devon.

The children have unanimously voted surfing as their favourite activity of the week so far and most want to go again! We have also completed the low ropes/assault course or climbing and abseiling as well as canoe drill training and problem solving/team activities.

It's our busiest day of the week tomorrow with canoe lake in the morning and coastal walk in the afternoon and disco in the evening so we need our sleep tonight!

Knapp House Day 2

It's been a day of changeable weather in North Devon today. We've had our fair amount of sunshine, as well as some light showers and plenty of cloud but nothing has been able to dampen the spirit and adventurous attitude of our children. Lots of children have done something they said they wouldn't be able to do or giving something a go that they were scared of and they have  loved every minute of it!

Today started with crabbing at Appledore quay and a rib ride up the estuary (as well as an ice cream) before the walk back to Knapp. After a brief rest for lunch it was tree hoist, Jacobs ladder and tree traverse or crate stacking and tunneling. Dinner was Jacket potato, chilli (veg and meat), salad and veg. The evening activity was pedal carts which we shared with our new friends from Fryern School!

Lights have been out for a while and there are lots of tired children already asleep, but there are still a few night owls enjoying sharing a room with their friends!

Knapp House Day 1

Good Evening from Devon!

The weather hasn't been great down here, but no rain yet - just a little windy! But we have managed to pack a lot into the first day. Depending on which group children are in they have either completed the Assault/low ropes course and Ringos or Climbing and abseil tower and ringos.

Dinner was pasta bolognese, Ratatouille or something else I can't remember just now with chips, veg, salad and dessert.

The children are starting to think about bed now but the site is alive with the sound of first night away from home delight (shouting and laughing).

We try and get pictures from as many people as possible, but sorry if we don't get your child each day. Rest assured though, everyone has had a great day and is looking forward to tomorrow.

Knapp House Day 5

The final day at Knapp house is a quick one but we still pack so much in. Breakfast, packing, surfing, packing, lunch and the start of the journey home.

I hope all the children enjoyed their trip to Knapp House and that they can recover any lost sleep over the weekend and I also hope parents have enjoyed our tweets an blog posts showing what the children have been getting up to.

Knapp House Day 3

Day 3 at Knapp House has been another scorcher! We have, however, had some breeze today so it's seemed much cooler. The sun cream has continued to be lathered on as we've had another full day.

Today our groups have had a go at: Tunneling and crate stacking, Low Ropes, Coastal walk, Canoe drill in the pool and ringos.

Knapp House Day 1

Having spent the last hour walking around site...I have finally found some wi-fi!!!! (Don't worry, there is someone looking after the children).

It's been a brilliant first day for our Knapp House visit. The weather has been beautiful. Hot, Sunny and perfect for a spot of Ringo riding, tree climbing, rock climbing/abseiling and canoe drill.

Another hot day tomorrow and another day stacked full of fun and adventure.

Knapp House final day

The final evening was disco night and the final day at Knapp had just one activity, surfing. It was excellent surfing conditions, however it was a little too windy so the children switched from surf boards to body boards.

There was only the long journey home to get through now. Some people didn't quite manage all the way though!

Knapp house day 4

The final full day at Knapp has been another busy one.

The weather has been a little changeable, but the food has continued to be filling and wide ranging. A great breakfast this morning was followed by activities of tunneling and crate stacking and coastal walking. Both were a little damp and muddy (I'm glad we don't have to do all the washing!) from yesterday - but were again, great fun.

This afternoon was one of the rare times when all the Oakwood have been on an activity together. We went crabbing and out on the rib boat on the river estuary. There were plenty caught: some big, some small and other in between!

Tonight's blog is a bit earlier as it's DISCO night tonight!! Time to dress up and hit the dance floor!

Knapp House 2016 Day 3

The weather here in Devon has taken a bit of a turn for the worst today. We've had some dry spells, but it has been a mainly wet and windy day. But did we let that stop us?...

Don't be silly!

We have been getting even wetter riding the speedboat and dangling out behind on a ringo along the river Torrage; Climbing and abseiling on the tower and we all went canoeing out on the lake together.

This evening, the rain has returned (with vengeance). All groups were together again this evening having some fun and frolics in the rain with the pedal carts.
(*Sorry if we haven't shown many pictures of your child on the blog, there is only room for so many, and they take quite a while to upload down here!)

We've had lots of post arrive so far so thank you to parents and family who have sent messages, don't forget you can leave comments here on our blog for us too!

Tuesday at Knapp House

Hello from Knapp House, Day two.

Its been a bit of a busy day today! Children were up very early and raring to go for breakfast (they must have run out of sweets and chocolate).
This morning's activities were: Canoe drill for two groups and climbing and abseiling for the other two. It was rather hard work in the pool for the canoe drill but the children are now ready to hit the lake later in the week. There were a number of people who beat their fear of heights and we are so proud of them!!

This afternoon was coastal walk and tree hoist and traverse. We did get a little wet, but the sun was soon shining again.

This evening two groups completed the crate stack and tunneling, the other two - tree hoist and traverse.

There are still a few awake, but most are now sleeping soundly.

Knapp House Day 1

We made great progress on the coach to the half-way stop, but a diversion a bit later on added an extra 45 minutes to our coach ride down; we did however get to enjoy some fantastic Devonshire scenery.

We didn't even have time to unpack properly before the activities started - we were straight into the fun! 2 groups donned the wetsuits and boarded the speed boat to make their way to the ringos, whilst the other 2 groups found their trunks and made their way to the swimming pool to practice their canoeing skills.

After Lasagne, hot dogs or ratatouille for dinner; all our groups completed the low ropes teamwork challenge. As I write this the children are starting to get ready for bed but there's no snoring yet (not even from Mrs Larder!)

Slam Dunk-Part 2!

After too much Knapp House tasty food (and far too many Kitkats), the staff of Oakwood managed to leave a lasting impression!
