Year 4 Biodiversity Survey

 Year 4 have completed their survey of the animals in their local habitat - the temperate woodland. They classified the animals they encountered and had fun exploring the woods. 

Y1 Mad Hatters Tea Party

Our topic this half term has been 'Once Upon A Time'. We learned alot about an author called Lewis Carroll who wrote a story called 'Alice's adventures in wonderland'. We found out that Lewis actually wrote the stories for an Alice who has been buried in Lyndhurst Hampshire. We decided in honour of his stories we would have our own wonderful Mad Hatters Tea Party.

Y4 Visit the Theatre

Year 4 were lucky enough to be able to go to the theatre to watch Cinderella. They loved seeing inside a real theatre and figuring out how everything works. We were amazed by the talented actors who sung, danced and played instruments as well as acting!

Year 5 Visit The Seacity Museum and have a Titanic Tour of Southampton

Year 5 had a wonderful day today exploring Seacity Museum and having a guided tour of all the special parts of Southampton related to the Titanic. What a really great day!

Y2 visit the Tudor House

Y2 Have had a fun filled day exploring the City Walls, Tudor House and learning about Castles in a workshop session.

St Margaret's Church- Year 2 Visit

Year 2 have been learning all about superheroes. This week we have started learning about real life superheroes, including Florence Nightingale.

On Tuesday this week, ten children from Year 2 visited St Margaret's Church in Wellow. They went to see where Florence Nightingale was buried.

They had a brilliant time finding out lots of interesting facts about Florence Nightingale's life and the church in which she is buried.

Did you know Florence Nightingale wished that only her initials F.N were on her grave stone?

Did you know St Margaret's Church is 804 years old?

It would be a great place to visit in half term!

Y4 River walk

Yesterday, Year 4 got out into the local area to explore rivers. We followed the path of Tanner's brook to see how it changed on its journey.

Y4 Arty adventure

On Friday Year 4 spent an exciting day exploring the new John Hansard Gallery, an art gallery in town and being introduced to the world of Gerhard Richter, a modern artist. We had an engaging tour of the gallery, then we got to create some of our own works inspired by him.

Elm Class visit Lordshill Library

On Tuesday, the sun was shining and Elm Class walked to Lordshill Library. The children had a great time listening to stories, exploring the wide selection of books and choosing a book to borrow. The children have been given time in class to read and enjoy their new library books. Thank you to all our parent helpers for joining us. We had a brilliant afternoon.

Water, water, water... and a walk!

The children at Oakstead have had a busy day today. We kick started the day with a walk in the local area, searching for places we could transport our treasure to. When we got back to school we wrote and drew instructions to help someone find our pirate treasure. This afternoon we did three activities learning all about different things to do with water. We thought about plastic oceans, and what we could do to make little changes to help our planet become a better place.

Here's looking at the first Oakwood Action Team for the Environment! 6TS got together with their partners in Cedar class for an afternoon of Gardening Fun last Friday. An hour or so later and the Pond and Quad areas are looking SO much better. Looking forward to our next meeting!

When Oakstead went to the woods today...

Today has been another busy day at Oakstead. This morning we headed into the woods for a muddy walk. On our way we collected natural resources for our afternoon activity. We made it back in time to catch up with what our friends are getting up to down at Minstead. In the afternoon we were set a challenge to use the things we had created on our walk and turn them into an animal scene, inspired by the animals we had seen at Marwell. Another busy day: 1 more day to go!

On Friday Year 3 walked to Down To Earth Farm, to find out how our learning about Healthy Humans corresponds to the biology of animals. We learned about animals diet, physiology and behaviour by interacting with farm animals and exotic animals from around the world!

What was to see at Sea City?

Today Year 5 had the opportunity to go to Sea City Museum. While we were there we took part in a workshop; had a guided tour and got to explore the museum ourselves. During the workshop we took part in the following activities: deciding who should get to go on the lifeboats, exploring artifacts similar to those that were on the Titanic, a science experiment about the physics to the sinking of the Titanic, using Morse code to send and decode messages and some of us even had the opportunity to dress up as crew and passengers from the Titanic!

Local Walk Year 1

This term Year 1 have explored their local area with a walk around Sandpiper Road.

The children made observations about the environment as part of their Geography work and took note of what they saw. They found out what material the houses are made from, the type of houses around our school and the plants and flowers that are growing near by.

We were very lucky with the weather, as it was a beautiful Spring day.
