Bolognese taste testing

As part of the 'World Kitchen' unit of work this half term, Y5 will be creating their own 'healthy' Bolognese recipes to cook in the kitchen.

The children learnt about the journey our beef mince goes through to get from 'Farm to Fork', investigated the nutritional content of different Bolognese sauces and had a go and testing some - about half the children managed to work out which was the cheap or expensive sauces on trial.

U10 Wide Lane Football Tournament

The school football season got underway on Monday with the yearly U10 Wide Lane tournament.

Oakwood were drawn in group 'C' which meant they had 6 games to play during the group stages.
Things got off to a solid start with a 0-0 draw against Sholing which was then followed by a 3-0 win over St Mary's. Unfortunately two 0-2 losses and a 0-3 defeat to Bitterne Park, Calmore and Foxhills respectively meant the final 0-0 draw with Townhill was in vain as Oakwood were unable to qualify as group winners or runners up.

Well done to all the players, but special mention to player of the day - Dylan. Goalscorers Vinny (2) and Summer (1)

Fantastic forces in Y5

Year 5 spent the start of last week exploring different forces. One of the forces we learned about was friction. As part of our friction learning, we worked in groups to plan and carry out a scientific experiment into friction. We explored two different variables: - The friction of different shoes -The friction of different surfaces We thought about what we would need to do to keep our tests fair. As part of our maths, we created a table to collect and present our results. Once we had collected our results we used these to create graphs to show our friction findings before drawing conclusions about which surface and shoe provided the most friction.

This term as part of our Up, Up and Away topic Year 5 have been busy designing and creating clay aliens. First we created fact files all about our aliens, then we created designs in our sketchbooks before modelling them from clay and painting them. We combined our 3D alien modelling skills and our 2D art skills to create our space environments. We also used our instruction writing skills to write instructions on how to capture our aliens.
