Remembering those who fought for our rights

Year 3's visit to the war graves at Hollybrook Cemetery was a little different this year.

Firstly, we went today (9th November) because we won't be at school on the 11th of November when the main Remembrance Ceremonies are being held.

Secondly, because we have been working on making our school a Rights Respecting School, we remembered that brave men and women had fought so that we could enjoy the rights we have.

We laid a wreath made by Year 3 and the Royal British Legion gave us small wooden crosses with poppies on them to place alongside of the individual graves.

Our House Captains, who have been selling poppies in school, accompanied Year 3 and we'd like to thank Mrs Wheeler and one of our governors, Mrs Vaudin, who also helped us on our visit.

We will let you know when we hear from the charity how much money we raised towards the Poppy Appeal.

Well done Year 3 on your exemplary behaviour today. During the walk several children explained why we were going to the cenotaph and why poppies were being laid. You showed a lot of respect at both the WW1 & WW2 graves and placed the crosses and poppies with care and dignity. You should be very proud of yourselves.
