Introducing our April 'Club of the Month'

Yesterday we were joined for the day by Chris and Chris from Dreams Netball Club, who are based at Oasis Acadamy, Lordshill.

Dreams Netball club has been a local club for 35 years and we were delighted to have them as our April ‘Club of the Month’.

They told us a little about netball and its history as an American sport, before explaining how it has changed over the years to its current format. Each class was then put through a selection of the coach’s netball drills – working on the key elements of netball, one of which being having fun and enjoying being active.

Dreams Netball Club run a large number of teams both junior and adult teams in both 7 a side and high 5 format. Their training sessions for 7-11 Year olds are from 6-7 on Wednesday evenings.

To find out more information about how to join Dreams and start enjoying netball please have a look at their website, or email Chris Granger on no1chrisg@aol.com

Year 3 Get Gardening

On Friday the children worked very hard on the gardens outside year 3. They have designed and planned where to plant and they have put in some wild flowers in the wild flower garden. It is really important that nobody walks on either garden so that the flowers have a chance to grow.

The Oakthorne children had a fantastic couple of days and will be able to use their skills in teamwork, designing and planning in the future!

Making Gardens in Year 5

For our 'Changes' hook day in Year 5, we designed and made fantastic miniature gardens. We look forward to seeing the gardens develop and grow. Look at the photos below to see our brilliant work!

Year 4 Iron Man Home Learning Project Exhibition

Well done to Year 4 for their amazing effort with this year's Iron Man projects.
The standard of models using recycled materials was some of the best yet! This was accompanied by some fantastic writing; which included stories, diagrams, information and instructions on how the models were made.

Thank you to all the parents and family who visited the exhibition.
Year 5 and 6 were also impressed with Year 4's work.

4TW Assembly (with no TW!)

This morning, 4TW presented their amazing class assembly, but one person seemed to have gone missing!

We told our parents about our visits to Marwell and Minstead and shared the secrets of the beads on our badges. Interestingly, we also showed our professional animals leaflets (with lots of VCOP!)

Here are some photos of the animals we told you about.

Joe and Cerys also made this video using Animoto. We hope you enjoy it!

Year 3 are "Fantastic at Fairthorne!"

Everyone at Fairthorne has had a brilliant day (so far!) with still lots to look forward to this evening... Bedtime still seems a long time away...

We have braved the heights to abseil and fly over the river on the aerial runway, we have fallen in mud, rolled down hills, shot bows in archery... and to refuel after all that energy we tucked into a delicious moussaka and meringues with cream!

We also sang to our birthday boys and ate their delicious cakes!

Tonight, we have songs around the camp fire and then hot chocolate before bed!

We might not want to come back...

Y3 Wonderful Woodmillers!

Year 3 Oakthorne children enjoyed their day at Woodmill.

They learned how to be Amazing Archers. Toni-Rose was a natural... on her second shot she hit the bull’s eye!

We learned how to climb a wall. Many of the children scaled the 30 foot wall in record time and some showed fantastic perseverance. Although they were not keen they kept going and most reached quite a height. They children really enjoyed abseiling back down.

We had just enough time for a picnic, football and a quick roll down a hill before attempting low ropes. The children worked fantastically as a team to support and spot any difficulty team members might face and help across the tricky course!

Year 3 Performance Poetry

Please enjoy a selection from Year 3's poetry performances:

Every Year 3 child selected their own poem to recite in front of the whole year group. They practiced it repeatedly for one lesson with a partner, adding actions and choosing an effective style in order to perform it the next day. Some even memorised their's! These finalists used 'easy-speak' microphones to record their voice and podcast it. Who's is the best? You decide...
