Back in Time!
As Oakwood Junior School prepares to become part of Oakwood Primary School in January 2014, we've found these old photos of the building being constructed back in 1978.
The school opened as Oakwood Middle School on 1 September 1978.
As you can see, it all looks a bit bare - the trees and bushes on the site are not as mature as they are now!
There are also some photos from lessons - do you recognise anyone? If so, please get in touch: info@oakwoodlive.net.
(You can also go back to 1984, and have a look at the Junior School Prospectus!)

Lovely to see these old photos of Oakwood. Great to see Trevor Shaw the original Head of the Middle School and Jane Pownall, now in charge of Minstead, with her long hair. Sadly don't recognise any of the children.
Wow!
amazing,i love history and have always wanted to know what the school used to be.

Nice to see Mr Wellington (in the red shirt), now running own sign company
remember him being big on art!
looking forward to seeing the rest of the photos soon!!!!!
Seeing those old pics nearly brought a tear to my eye. This was my first teaching job and I loved the characters of the kids and I recognise most of them but can name few of them. I am the guy in the red shirt (Mr Wellington). The idea was to forge ahead as a pilot school for open plan teaching with some very liberal schemes of floating around classrooms. We soon found it didn't work and the sliding curtains went across never to be withdrawn. I have a few good stories but a public blog is probably not a good idea to air them.
Can anyone help out with names for the children in the pics. I remember them so well yet can name so few. Simon Wellington.
