Federation Sports Day

Earlier this week, Team Oakwood competed in the annual Redbridge and Lordshill Federation Sports Day held at Fairisle Junior School.

Oakwood took 18 children from across the school which were split into three teams, Y2, Y4, Y6. Each team then competed against 3/4 other schools at a range of events (very similar to our own School Sports Day) with teams earning points at each station for and overall Team Oakwood.

Oakwood did very well, picking up plenty of wins on the way round the stations and were 'trading blows' with both Newlands (last years winners) and Fairisle in the battle for 1st. When all the events were complete and the points counted it was a Newlands, Oakwood, Fairisle - 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

In addition to the 'multi-skilled' events there were 6 sprint races - Girls and Boys, Y2, Y4 and Y6. This is where Team Oakwood showed their talent winning 5 out of the 6 races and coming 2nd in the 6th! A fantastic achievement.

Well done to everyone who represented the school so well and did Oakwood proud.

KS1 Federation Multi-Skills event

Yesterday after school children stayed to participate in a fun and friendly event with Newlands Primary School.

Oakwood hosted the event and our fantastic sports leaders organised the different stations for the children to work through.

The assault course included balancing, throwing, aiming and even crawling through a tunnel.

Well done to all the children who took part.

Federation Fitness Festival

Each year Oakwood attends a number of sports events run for schools in the Redbridge and Lorshill Federation. Today, 10 Y6 children represented Oakwood in the Federation Fitness festival.

They completed a range of fitness activities test all sorts of different fitnesses and did very well. The team finished in 3rd place, missing out on 2nd/1st by just a small margin.

Well done girls/boys for keeping going in the cold weather (Mrs Wheeler informs me there was even snow at one point!).
