Our Final KS2 Club of the Month

Wednesday and Thursday was our last Club of the Month for 2013-14.

All KS2 children got to have a go at indoor caving (outdoors). Children suited up in overalls, helmets and blindfold to take on the winding course through the adventure play area. Crawling, sliding and banding their way along the course.

All the children loved having a go, and I'm told it was much more difficult than it looked!

Take a look at the pictures from Y3 and 4.

Inter-House Competition

Today saw the final two events in this years inter-house sports cup competition; the Y5 Hi-5 Netball and the Y3 Kwik-Cricket.

The Y5 Hi-5 netball scores were:

Ventura 4-0 Britannia                      Adonia 0 - 3 Azura                              Britannia 0-1 Adonia
Azura 0-4 Ventura                          Ventura 4-0 Adonia                             Azura 1-1 Britannia

Which means; 1st place = Ventura, 2nd = Adonia, 3rd = Azura, 4th Britannia

The Y3 Cricket finished with: 1st Adonia, 2nd Azura, 3rd Ventura, 4th Britannia

Well done to all of those who took part and represented their houses.

Potatoes!

Back in April the Eco Monitors planted some potatoes with the help of Mrs Johnston and over the past few months have been looking after them and waiting for them to grow.

Last week they dug them up and hand transformed 7 little spuds into 44 in total! Then on Friday afternoon they produced a tasty potato salad which they shared with some of the adults around school!

They have all learned how rewarding it is to grow your own produce and how yummy it can be!

A Year 2 Recorders Recording!

Year 2 have been learning to play the recorder and have also learned what all the notes are called!

Have a listen to see what experts they have become!

Teddy Bear-Tastic!

Mrs Byles, cleaner of the Year 6 classrooms, breathed a sigh of relief as the final stitch was sewn in the final teddy bear this week. No more fluff, no more stray pins, needles or threads. But what an achievement!

Parents, grandparents, teaching assistants have worked (and chatted) collaboratively with pupils and teachers to produce the amazing array of unique teddy bears that sit proudly in the KS2 entrance hall.

Another treasured memory to be stored in the Oakwood School chest.

Great First Day for New Year 6 2014-2015

It was a busy and fun packed transfer day for the new Year 6 cohort 2014-2014 and they made a fantastic start.

The day began with a starter task which gave the children the opportunity of showing off their artistic skills, by drawing what they think their Year 6 teachers might look like after teaching them for a year. Take a look at some of the results-very frightening!

After a getting to know you session, they were introduced to the work of a terrific modern painter and glass sculptor Dale Chihuly who will be the inspiration for some our science and art work through the year. Take a look at some of his work.

The children used filter paper, watercolour paints, spray starch, glitter and glue to create colourful flower heads which will be combined together to create wild and wonderful flower display outside the Year 6 area. Further projects including 3D sculpture are planned for next year so keep your eyes peeled. Take a look at the flowers in progress.

Well done new Year 6-all your Year 6 teachers and helpers were very impressed.

Year 2 Rio!

Last week Year 2 flew to Rio, enjoying strawberries and cream on the way! They made passports and had to go through security before they could board the plane. The children had great fun learning about Rio. They made carnival masks and wrote a letter trying to persuade other schools to go too!
