A Step Back in Time

The summer break is always a good time to catch up with a few jobs...

Our outgoing Year 6 ICT gurus, Jack and Ryan, scanned a lot of old photos which we found in a dusty cupboard. This is the first time we've had to make them public!

See if you recognise anyone!

Music on the Map: The Video

Thanks to Showcase Performance Group, we now have a video from the Music on the Map concert!

Our 60 Year 3 children, playing trombone, trumpet, glockenspiel and clarinet are in there somewhere...

A brilliant celebration of a great year!

Summer Works...

As soon as the last child left on the last day, contractors moved in to do some of the work which we're having done over the summer break...

  • New windows in Year R
  • Six new skylights to replace leaking ones on the KS1 building
  • Year 5 classrooms recarpeted and redecorated
  • The Art Studio refloored
  • The hot and cold water system replaced in the KS2 building
  • Our network reconfigured for much faster internet

Here are some photos to show you how it's going!

Evening Wear Only... Year REALLY 6 say Goodbye!

Year 6 said their goodbyes at 3.15 this afternoon, but they couldn't wait to be back for their Leavers' Prom!

Here are a few photo albums to show how the evening progressed!

We will miss them!

Leaving

Final days of Year 2

As a grand finale to the year, Year 2 put on a fashion show for the rest of Key Stage 1 after designing and creating their own works of art. This work linked to our topic of recycling, reusing and repairing, I'm sure the rest of the school will agree the children have a flare for fashion design and catwalk modelling!
Then we had our final year party involving making hats, party bags, playing games and of course lots of dancing and winning prizes!
Year 2 has been a fun packed year and the children are now looking forward to the challenges of Year 3!

Memories Will Hold Them Close...

Year 6 said the next stage of their goodbyes this morning as they took part in their leavers' service.

As always, Year 3 children had made individual, unique candle holders for Year 6 children - they used these in the service and they will take them home as keepsakes.

Robert and Trudi from Lordshill Church joined us to lead our memories, share our hopes and to bless the candles.

But first... Let me take a #Selfie!

You asked for it... so here it is!

Year 6's Selfie video from their leavers' performance!

Thanks to the gentlemen form TMC for putting this together for us!

Commemorating the Centenary of WWI

Year 6 have been commemorating the centenary of World War I in their work this term.

They have been reading, dramatising and writing, trying to empathise with those involved.

They also watched listened to the radio production of Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo and saw the film at the cinema.

We present evocative pieces of writing by two children, both awarded Level 6 for their achievement.

Year 6 start saying Goodbye!

Year 6 started several days of goodbyes today with their leavers' production...

Called The 59 Minutes and 59 Seconds Production, it actually lasted over an hour, but there was a lot to fit in!

We were reminded of "Panto Pandemonium", with Moo and Tail, from Christmas; the mood got very silly with Mr Wills and his penchant for sweets and biscuits; we saw Jack being Miss Patchett being Conchita Wurst (although Miss Patchett says we can't put that video on the blog!) and there were slightly too many Mr Taylors...

Year 6 have been watching everyone carefully throughout their time at Oakwood and the performances were spot on! (There was even an appearance from Mr Howard from Fairisle!)

Thank you for acting and dancing and singing and making us laugh, Year 6! Twice! All on the hottest day of the year!!

Year 4 Aztec Dance

Year 4 have been working very hard, learning all about the Aztecs. As part of their topic, they worked with Commotion Dance and the Nuffield Theatre to produce an amazing dance based on 'Worshippers and Warriors'.

Thank you to all the parents who came along to see their performance too! For those of you who didn't see it live, have a look at the video below!
