Year R have had a great time learning about the people who help us in our community. For 5 weeks we have done some fun activities, check them out.

We ended our topic with a dress up day finale.
Meet our two new Junior Road Safety Officers! Last week they completed their road safety training and are now our school experts!
A group of year 5 and year 6 children had a great time taking part in a dance workshop at Redbridge Community School today. Maybe we will see them on 'Strictly' one day?
Year 4 braved the rain today to see both domestic farm animals, as well as some exotic species from around the world.
We learnt how the the body of the bearded dragon is perfectly suited for survival in hot dry countries. We also learnt about how certain characteristics of farm animals have been selected by humans.
Thankfully, as humans, we can prepare for all weather conditions, so our children had a lovely time!
Over the past three weeks Y5 and Y6 have been attending an indoor athletics event at Redbridge School. The children competed in field and track events. They were brilliant and worked their works off! Our overall placing in the city was 7th. Go Oakwood!
The OSA Christmas Fair was a brilliant community event once again! Of course we want it to be a successful fundraiser (we'll let you know how much we raised soon!), but the most important things was that it was so well attended, and it was a reminder of just how lovely our community of children, parents and staff is. Everyone had a smile on their face! (Spot yourself in the video!)
Thanks to every one of you for the part you played in making it so. Special thanks as usual to the OSA Committee, particularly Gill and Gary, who go out of their way to make sure the whole thing comes together, Julie and Kelly in the kitchen, and to Martyn and the cleaning team for getting everything spick and span again.

Y2 were lucky enough to have visitors from Southampton Sight who taught the children about people living with blindness and vision impairments.
It was very interactive giving the children an insight into what living with a vision impairment would be like.
The activities included: walking around using a cane, identifying objects in a feely bag, experiencing a braille book and reading books with glasses which mimic different vision impairments.
Thank you to Southampton Sight for coming to Oakwood for a really enjoyable workshop.
As part of their history work the children in Year 2 have been learning about the Great Fire of London.
To see and understand just how quickly the fire spread we created our own burning houses.
