Y6 Homework

Y6 have been looking at poetry in English recently, so for their homework this week they were asked to look at the poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'. Then, in class, they performed part or all of the poem in small groups.

The Great Oakwood Poetry off, The Poetry Factor, Oakwood's got Poems - call it what ever you like, the poem performances were brilliant! Each English set nominated groups to represent them in a poetry reading final. Well done to the winning group - a great performance.

Y4 Quentin Blake Art

In English this half term, Year 4 have been reading Quentin Blake's 'The Green Ship'. After reading Quentin Blake's work we created our own ship stories. As Quentin Blake is an illustrator as well as an author we decided to look at his illustrations and create illustrations for our own stories using the same techniques as him. Once we had sketched our pictures out we watercoloured them before using dip pens to add ink. Have a look at our fantastic illustrations!

Southampton Schools 5-a-side Competition

The girls' football team did very well in the round robin stages of the Indoor 5-a-side competition today.
Six minute match are notoriously difficult to produce your best football in and results can go either way, so it was great to see Team Oakwood perform so well in their 4 games.

Their results were:
Oakwood 5-0 Hollybrook
Oakwood 2-1 St Monica
Oakwood 6-0 Townhill
Oakwood 3-0 Blackfield.

Well done to our scorers: Praise (3), Cailtin (5), Mia (5), Angel (1) and Summer (2) and special mention to our player of the day, Caitlin.

Year 1 - Nathan Sawaya

During our 'Toys' topic we have been learning about Nathan Sawaya. He creates sculptures out of Lego. We planned our own Lego robots and then had a go at making them!

Oakwood's Advent Books

It was a very exciting morning today at Oakwood.

It's the 1st of December and during whole school assembly this morning we launched our Advent Books. This is a traditional countdown to Christmas with a twist. Each day we will open the next door on the calendar and a new book is revealed to read.

Today's book was 'Santa is coming to Southampton' which Mr Taylor shared with us in assembly. Over the next 23 days we will reveal and read a new book each day - we will even be doing it at weekends! Pre-recorded videos will be posted on the school blog and on Twitter on the school website for the books over the weekend.

We'd love families to get involved and share the books again at home if you have them! We won't be revealing the books in advance but you can see each book on display in the school reception once it has been revealed.
