Y6 visit London

On Friday Y6 were at school bright and early as they had a long journey to London to make.

First stop? The Natural History Museum and Science Museum to explore Darwin, Evolution, Space, Volcanoes & Earthquakes, Victorians and anything else that that took their fancy! The children found the displays and information fascinating, it was hard to keep them moving at times!

Having spent time at the two museums, we boarded the coach again and travelled past Westminster to The Globe. After a quick break for lunch, the children met their respective actors who gave them their guided tour of the theatre, providing a history of The Globe and the development of Shakespeare's acting company. Then, the children's acting skills were tested as they began their exploration of Shakespeare's Macbeth under the expert tuition of their actors.

The children had a fantastic day and even the traffic was on our side!

We all love aliens

Year R's latest topic has been all about 'Space Adventures' and we have learned all about space and its inhabitants.

We began our topic with a strange message from the aliens giving us instructions to make them some pants and it finished with another message, but from Mr Taylor this time, asking us to write him a letter to tell him what we have learned.

Along the way we have had lots of fun making straw blown aliens, building our own role play, making moon mud and ice craters, alien dancing, space music making, marbling solar systems and much much more.

We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about space, bring on the next topic.

Year R: Mr Taylor receives some letters....

Year R received a video message from Mr Taylor requesting information about astronomy! What a coincidence, as we're just wrapping up our topic on 'Outer Space'! Year R were only too happy to write (and decorate) letters for Mr Taylor! They wrote 'memory words' and sounded-out unknown words phonetically. Their teachers were VERY impressed by their fantastic sentence ideas and amazing knowledge of outer space! To finish, they decorated them with pastels and e-mailed him to ask if he could pop by to pick them up! Mr Taylor was very pleased with his letters!

Year 4: River walks and maths with sticks!

Year four had a busy morning today. They started off the day by exploring a local river by going for a walk to look at the different features we had been learning about in class. While on our walk we collecting some natural resources to help us with our maths lesson. When we got back to school we used sticks and stones collected from our walk to help us with our grid multiplication. What a busy morning!

Y4 River Building

As part of of our raging rivers geography topic, Year 4 have had a fantastic afternoon building a river on the playground. We thought about what each layer of our building material represented and finally we poured rain (water) onto our river bed to create our river.

How clear do instructions need to be?

Today in Year 5 we completed an activity in English focusing on giving precise instructions. We had to sit back to back to our partner and make a small Lego model. We then had to describe to them exactly how to make an identical model.

The activity allowed us to identify how specific instructions need to be, to inform our audience and how important prepositions and adverbs are.

Year 3's Giacometti Study-Sculptures.

Incredible Instructions Day

Today Year 5 had an exciting Instructions Day to kick start their writing to inform unit this term. They each brought in an item from home that had instructions. They first familiarized themselves with a partners item using the instructions, whilst doing so they identified features of an instruction text and what made instructions good/ bad as a reader. They then had a go at writing a new set of instructions for an item and then had a go at following each others instructions.

We learnt lots about how to make instructions clear and easy to follow, we are now looking forward to applying this to our writing linked to Space throughout the next few weeks.

Welcome back to school! Year 6 Teambuilding!

Year 6 have welcomed the new year in with a fabulous team building morning. Our challenge - build the tallest tower we can with only newspaper and tape. The catch? It's also got to withstand the wind forces of Mrs. Sansome's fan and Miss Patchett's hair dryer! What fun....also very messy!
