Performance Poetry in 5BW

Over the last week 5BW have been taking part in a Lit Film Fest project, 'Why we play!'. We looked at a variety of poems and poets (including Michael Rosen). We produced our own poems, then we selected the two lines we were most proud of to collaborate with our class mates. Finally we practiced performing our lines in an entertaining way and created a class poem together.

We hope you enjoy it!

Year 1 Willow Trip To Testwood Lakes

Willow class had a super sunny day trip to Testwood Lakes on Monday.  The children were in charge of building houses for the three Little Pigs, using straw, sticks, stone and clay.  The children worked brilliantly together in their teams to build the houses so that the pigs could stay warm and dry and safe from the Big Bad Wolf.  Willow class rose to all the challenges that faced them and were a credit to the school.

End of the football season

Team Oakwood have played their final three games of the School Football Season in the last two weeks.

They had their 5th match night at Holy Family school where they played games against Holy Family and Shirley. In blustery and difficult conditions, Oakwood worked hard and eventually prevailed 2-1 thanks to goals from Vinny and Sonny.
The second game of the night saw Oakwood come from behind to grab a 2-2 draw against Shirley. Sonny grabbing both goals in a difficult game against a well organised team.

Oakwood's final game of the season was against league winners Fairisle Junior School. It was a thrilling match with both teams determined the finish the season with a victory. It was Fairisle who scored first, but, once Oakwood had equalised through a long range strike from Vinny, it was Oakwood who looked more likely to grab the win. However, neither team could find a winning goal and the match finished 1-1.

It has been a good season for Team Oakwood with only one loss, meaning a second place league finish. Well done to all the squad, and thank you to the parents who have supported the team this year.

Year R Out of Africa

We have now come to the end of our Out of Africa topic where the children have learned all about the animals that live in Africa and the habitats that they come from.

To finish the topic we have created some junk models. The children chose if they wanted to make binoculars to go exploring, a safari jeep camouflaged and ready to spot animals or the animals themselves.

Can you work out what we have made?

This half term our topic is Little Explorers. We have been looking at all of the different continents. We have been looking at Africa and comparing how we live to how some people live in Africa. We have used clay and straw to help us build some model huts.

Maths Workshare

Parents were invited into school to have a presentation about the way in which our Maths log system works. They also had the opportunity to visit classrooms and work with their children on their particular log.
