Football Team - City Cup

As runners up last year, Oakwood had a bye through the previous round of the City Cup. This meant that this evening's game was for a place in the quarter finals.

After a delayed start, Oakwood began the match in confident fashion - creating several promising attacks. However, from an Oakwood corner, Mount Pleasant broke and after a mazy run, managed to find the bottom corner of the net. Oakwood pushed but could not find their passing rhythm before half time.

Three changes at half time seemed to jolt Oakwood back to life and the passing started to improve despite some rugged tackles from Mount Pleasant. Oakwood drew level after a neat shot was saved by the Mount Pleasant 'keeper when the rebound was bundled in. Finding a new gear during the final 5 minutes, Oakwood moved the ball quickly and finally made their domination show - scoring 3 more goals before the final whistle blew.

Well done to Player of the Match - Tom - for a fantastic second half performance.
Goal scorers: Tom (1), Sonny (2) & Caitlin (1).

School Football Team Match Night 3

Match night 3 saw Oakwood play two games. The first was against local rivals Fairisle, who have recently won the Hampshire U10 cup.

The game was exciting with plenty of goal mouth action for both teams and some excellent football on display. Fairisle took a 0-1 lead before half time but an Oakwood equaliser, making it 1-1, after the re-start made it a very interesting game. Towards the end of the game Fairisle capitalised on an Oakwood mistake and moved 1-2 ahead and then held strong for the remaining few minutes. Oakwood could count themselves unlucky with the 1-2 defeat.

The second game was also fast paced, but the good football Oakwood had shown during the first game only made fleeting appearances. Although Oakwood were forced to come from behind again, this time Will scoring the equaliser, more mistakes were punished and Foundry Lane condemned Oakwood to a second 1-2 defeat.

Well done to our scorers: Sonny (1) and Will (1), but our clear man of the match was 'Keeper Bradley.

Year 5 have a visitor

Year 5 were extremely lucky today to have a visit from one of our Grandparents. He was friends with the son of a gentleman who was part of the crew aboard the Titanic. He shows us two beautiful paintings of the Titanic both signed by survivors of the unsinkable ship. The paintings told such a story of history. He also told us an actual true story that was recorded by the crew member himself. So lovely to have this special treat today. So much learned and many new facts and information for us all to take in. Thank you so much Mr Wiseman!
