City Cross County Championships

On Friday it was the turn of Y5/6 children to attend the City Cross Country Championship race at the Sports Centre.

Some of the children were running for the first time, having not run in the league before Christmas, and did really well. See their results below.

A big well done to everyone who raced from Y3/4/5& 6 over the last two weeks.

LKS2 Cross County Championship

On Friday last week Team Oakwood sent a group of children from Lower Key Stage 2 to the City Cross Country Championships which were held at the Outdoor Sports Centre. There are separate girls and boys races and both races see competitors complete a simple lap of the entire sports centre. The race distance is just over a mile and is the same course the Y5/6 children will be running this week!

Well done to all the children who took part,

Cross County Final race

It was the final race of the cross country league this evening. There were personal bests galore as nearly all Oakwood runners took advantage of the absence of several schools who opted not to race.

The league results will be calculated on a best out of three. The first 4 runners over the line in each weeks will form Oakwood's A team, the next 4 the B team and so on. Teams will then be ranked based on their accumulated positions, the lowest score winning. The boys teams were down the leaderboard before today's race but could improve. The girl's A team were ranked 2nd before today's final race so we will wait for the scores to be calculated with anticipation.

Cross Country Week 4

Friday was week 4 of the schools' cross country league (week 3 having been rained off).
There were some excellent results in both the boys' and girls' team and again lots of children beat their personal best!

Although Friday was the last of the scheduled Cross Country races there were whispers that the cancelled race might be re-scheduled for next Friday (18/11/2016). We will keep you updated as soon as information is released by the organisers.

Cross Country League - Week 2

Even thought half term kicked in at 3:15 on Friday, the school cross country team were hard at work at the Sports Centre.

Week 2 of the schools' cross country league was dry and the sun was out - ideal running conditions. Lots of Team Oakwood used the conditions to improve on their week 1 positions.

See how well we did this week below, and remember there's just 2 more weeks of the league to go.

Cross Country League Week 1

On Friday after school the Oakwood Cross country team went to the first of 4 league 'meets' .
The races, 1 girls and 1 boys, take place at the outdoor sports centre and involve a giant loop of the sports centre facilities - about 1.1 miles in total.

Any pupil from Y4, 5 & 6 can enter - as long as you can make it round before the cut off time. There are still 3 more races to go, so if you would like to represent Team Oakwood here is your chance! Just speak to Mr Ackland.
