This Monday was the turn of the U11s at the annual 6-A-Side tournament.

Oakood played some excellent football and looked fully ready for the season ahead, conceeding just a single goal in their 6 group games. 3 wins, 2 draws and a loss however were not enough for Oakwood to progress to the semi-finals, finishing 3rd in a strong group.

Oakwood 0-0 Newlands
Oakwood 2-0 Bassett Green
Oakwood 1-0 Calmore
Oakwood 0-0 St Monica
Oakwood 0-1 Bitterne Manor
OAkwood 2-0 Townhill

Well done to goal scorers Bleu (1), Ethan (2), and Sonny (2). Players of the day went to Sonny for a set of excellent team performances.

Y6 Victorian Day

Y6 were a group of scruffy, unclean, uneducated group of street urchins today...well, most of them...But they had an excuse...Today was Victorian Day!

The children experienced the worst and best of Victorian schooling. From the 3R's to studying the humble potato. From Drill and playground games to Calligraphy and the Dunce's hat.

The children took everything in the best of spirits and had lots to say about their Victorian experience.

Year 5 Visit SeaCity Museum and the Southampton Boat Show

Year 5 had an absolutely windy but wonderful day on Wednesday, visiting SeaCity Museum and the Southampton Boat Show. We started at SeaCity, discovering all about Southampton's links to the Titanic, life of board the ship and the disaster which caused the loss of so many lives. The children also took part in a fascinating workshop, where an expert explained more about the voyage, the sinking and the mistakes that caused the tragedy.

In the afternoon, we had a windy walk down to the Southampton Boat Show. Unfortunately, the marina was closed due to the high winds but this did not stop us from exploring the rest of the show and deciding which boat would be our future purchase!

Well done for a brilliant day Year 5!

Southampton City U10 6-A-Side Football

Team Oakwood took part in the Annual Wide Lane 6-A-Side football tournament today.

The weather was fantastic and the conditions were great but Team Oakwood didn't manage to qualify for the quarter finals after winning 1, drawing 1 and losing 2 of their four group games.
The team played well and got better and better with each game.

They were narrowly beaten by group winners Kanes Hill 1-0, before going down for a second time in two games - losing 0-2 to Abbotswood. Oakwood drew the third game 0-0 but were unlucky not to take the three points having hit the crossbar, post and having a shot cleared off the line. They did however beat Sholing their last group game, winning 2-0 with Radu grabbing both goals.

Well done to all the Oakwood players but Player of the Tournament went to goal scorer Radu.

My Bnk Visit Oakwood

Year 5 were very lucky today to have Stephen from My Bnk visit them to do the first of three workshops with us. Some of the things we learnt about about were habits, persistence and temptations. We also met the characters Super Saver and Big Spender.

We can't wait for our next workshop in two weeks time!

Year 6 Wacky Races

Year six have had such an exciting first week back after their long summer holidays. They took part in a Design Technology and Science week - Wacky Races.

The children worked in small groups during the course of the week to design, make and power 'wacky' racing cars. These were put to the test on Friday afternoon as the groups competed for three winners' awards (Fastest Car, Best Design and Best Teamwork).

The children enjoyed their first week back and are looking forward to a successful year in Y6.

Oakie and Sam's Holiday.

Over the summer holidays, Oakie Bear and Sam went to stay with Miss Torjussen. They had a wonderful time exploring Devon and the weather was beautiful! Some of their highlights were going for lots of long walks through the fields, looking at all of the farm animals, visiting little villages and going to the seaside. They stayed in a lovely cottage and enjoyed relaxing with cups of tea, chocolate cookies and playing games. Oakie and Sam had fun playing hide and seek... can you spot Sam up high? Oakie and Sam even made a new friend, Kofi the dog!

Oakie and Sam are excited to be back at school to see all the children again.
