Halloween Science Fun

Year 3 decided to have a bit of Halloween inspired fun today. To help us with our science topic of light Year 3 made some shadow puppets. We were learning not only about shadows but also about different materials and the amount of light that can pass through them. Look at the spooky fun we had:-

Reading Workshare

A big thank you to all of the parents and friends who were able to attend our English - Reading Workshare event this morning - I've never seen the school so full of reading!

We hope that you found our brief meeting around the Read IT skills and our new Reading Journals informative. If you do have any further questions then class teachers are your first port of call.

We also hope that you enjoyed being able to spend some time reading with your child - lots of the children were very excited to be able to share stories with you in school and there was a great reading 'buzz' everywhere.

Y6 Victorian Fayre

Sorry, we forgot to publish our Victorian Fayre Blog!

Yesterday Y6 held their annual 'Victorian Fayre'!

There was a Victorian style sweet stall, a tea and coffee shop filled with copious amounts of cake, a Victorian inspired gallery, a bakery stall, a teddy stall, a bring and buy toys and games stall and a wide variety of Victorian street games to risk a penny.

Every element of the event is organised and run by the children and they did a marvellous job in turning stall holders and street sellers for the afternoon. In just a little over an hour they managed to raise a fantastic £665! Incredible!

Well done year six. AND a big HUGE thank you to everyone you made a donation to the cause or visited and spent a little money!

Autumn in Year R

Y4 Roman Day

Today we celebrate 400 years of the Roman Empire in Britain. Our Soldiers completed a final march, our chefs prepared a lavish feast and our artisans designed a marvelous mosaic floor. However, change is coming, as worrying rumours of attacks on Rome suggest that these may be the final days of Imperial control of Britain!

Y1 Maths

Year 1 have been very busy in Maths this half term. The children have been learning about place value; knowing how many tens and units make a number. They have been enjoying practising their counting to and from 20, especially with the flossing monkey to help them! When learning their number bonds to 10 and 20, the children have been using their wiggly fingers to help them.

Y1 Baking Bread

The children had the opportunity to bake some bread rolls this half term. They had to use their measuring, mixing, kneading and rolling skills to create the perfect bread rolls. The children had lots of fun during this activity.

Y1 Wonderful Me

This half term, Year 1's topic has been Wonderful Me. We have been learning all about our 5 senses; writing poems using them and learning about Louis Braille. In our RE, we baked some delicious bread rolls and have produced some lovely Autumnal trees in our Art work. We used our knowledge of colour mixing to make the autumn colours for our trees and have been observing the changes within the season.

A visit to the Oakwood Museum

Year 4 took an exciting trip to Oakwood's very own Roman museum. While we were there we had to work out what each artifact was used for by the Romans, before some of us got into character as some of the different people from the Roman era.

School Football Team

The School Football Team have been very busy during the start of the new season. As well as their weekly training sessions, they have taken part in two 6-a-side tournaments, a City cup fixture and the first two league matches of the season.

Team Oakwood's league campaign got off to a great start against Shirley. Oakwood winning 7-0. Vinny (2), Sonny (2), Radu (1), Ethan (1) and Will (1) grabbing the goals whilst Sonny picked up the Man of the Match award.

The team played St Monica in the City Cup a few days later and played out an exciting 1-2 defeat, 'keeper Dylan making a number of top saves to keep Oakwood in the game, and earn himself the Man of the Match award.

Oakwood kept up their winning start to the league season with a 4-0 win over Holy Family in theire second game. An excellent team performance was topped off with two goals a piece from Vinny and Ethan. Midfielder Will picking up the Man of the Match award.

The games keep coming in the last two weeks of the half term before the weather and light changes and the Winter break begins.
