Make 5 Grow

Year 6 children launched their Make 5 Grow businesses this week and have done a roaring trade!

Each Y6 child has been loaned £5 with the challenge of making their money grow. Most have pooled their money in teams but some brave souls are going it alone! 16 separate businesses have been ordering, making, baking, chilling, freezing and most importantly selling!

If you have been looking forward to buying something after school then we have to apologise. Our products have been so popular that they have sold out at lunchtime each day!

As it has been such a lovely day we also opened up the doors to the pond for parents to explore, did anyone find the frogs?

Time to donate!

After a busy Jude's topic, the winning team successfully sold all their ice cream! Raising a fantastic £300.00 to donate to the local young peoples mental health charity, No Limits. Learning French with Mr Fernandes-Berger

Mr Fernandes-Berger visited Year 3 today to help them with their French pronunciation.

Originally from Belgium, Mr Fernandes-Berger's first language is French and so he came to talk with Year 3. We went through the French alphabet and talked to our visitor using the conversational language we have learned this year. We even quizzed our visitor on his home country of Belgium as part of our European studies.

Year 6 - A Question of Faith

Year 6 spent the day yesterday working with Matt and his team from the Southampton City Mission as they looked at the theme of transition.

As well as looking at how some Christians view transition as just the beginning of a new journey, the children explored their own feelings, hopes and dreams; as they begin their own transition from primary school the secondary school.

School Games Hockey League Week 2

Today was week two of the Schools' Hockey League. Both Oakwood teams had another two games to play and were hopeful for good results. The sunshine made the 15 minute games very hard work but Team Oakwood gave it their all.

The 'A' team followed up last weeks wins with a 4-0 victory over Bitterne Primary and despite dominating against Valentine it took a last second goal to salvage a 1-1 draw.
Scorers this week: Nathaniel (3) and Marcus (2). This week's player of the week - Marcus!

The 'B' team battled hard in their first game but lost out to a single goal - going down 0-1 to Ludlow. Oakwood struggled to cope with Valentine's star player in their second match and suffered a 0-3 loss.
This week's player of the week - James.

Both teams have their final group games next week.

Flower Art in Year 1

Our topic this half term is 'Growing Things' where we are learning all about different types of plants.

In art we have painted our own version of Vincent Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers'. We learned that he uses bright colours and big brush strokes in his art work, so we did the same.

We have also created 3D flowers using cupcake cases and other collage materials. They have really brightened up our classrooms.
