Year 6 Prom

The morning after the night before...!

Thanks so much to all parents, staff and, of course, our leaving Y6 pupils for making the prom a truly memorable evening.

We've tried to make the photos a bit easier to look at this year, so click on the image below for the slideshow! (Use the cursor keys on your keyboard, or swipe left to move through the photos!)

Oakwood's The Word! Y6 Perform one last time...

Year 6 told a story of intrigue and sabotage for their final performance to Oakwood today.

In a story within a story, as they prepared to put on their production of Grease, their plans were thrown into disarray by a rival local headteacher who hid the vital USB stick!

Without the photos of them when they were younger, how would they make their parents emotional at the show?

Well, as you might expect, all was well (and no-one from Fairisle was harmed during the making of this musical!)

(Here's the unrehearsed cool-down at the end of the afternoon performance! Nice moves, Mrs Hennen!)

And here's the CarPool Karaoke in Mrs McDonald's Picanto... (on the way to Fairisle!)

And the T-Birds workshop...!

Y4 Carousels

Over the past few weeks Year 4 have been working hard making their very own moving carousels. There have been many stages to complete before actually making the finished product. Carousels and the history of the fairground, then electricity and circuit building. A design and theme also needed to be considered, then the finished article needed to be evaluated. They have all done an amazing job!

Year 2 and 3LD Meet for the afternoon

3LD came to Year 2 this afternoon for some PDR.

Y1 Observational Drawing of the School

Year 1 spent this afternoon outside drawing the school. They had to count the windows and doors, look at the shape of the roof and think about the colours they needed.

Year 6 Water Antics!

Water Antics on the field! Year 6 are cooling down after a long hard year. Spot the big boys rather wet!

Oakwood's Got Talent

Today we had our final show of Oakwood's Got Talent. The finalists in Key Satge 1 performed a variety of acts in front of an audience and panel of judges.

We saw dances, a comedy act, a magic show and singing. The judges were so impressed with all of the acts and had a very difficult decision to choose the winners.

Year 4 Working Hard On Their Carousels

Year 4 are doing a fantastic job at the moment working on their carousels. They are showing a very positive growth mindset as it is very tricky to complete the circuit and get their carousels to spin! Have a look at our 'work in progress' gallery and check back soon to see the finished carousels in all their glory!

Y1 Papier Mâché Rockets

Year one have created their own rockets. They started with a tube and then attached a card nose to one end. After that they used newspaper and papier mâché paste to cover the rocket. The rockets were left over the weekend to dry and the children were surprised to see that their rockets were then hard. Finally the rockets were painted and windows, doors and flames were added. Don't they look fantastic!

Personal Best Day

Every half term the children in year R, 1 and 2 have enjoyed Personal Best Days which are run by our TMC coaches.

This was the last one for the year and the children got to practise all the skills that they had learned throughout the year.

Teddies and Cushions

Y6 children haven't stopped this year!

Since SATs they've created and run a business and raised a fantastic amount of money! But most recently they have been working on their DT project - Teddies or cushions.

The children have been working exceptionally hard on them: designing, re-designing and producing a selection of brilliant products which they will soon be able to take away and keep forever.

Federation Sports Day

Earlier this week, Team Oakwood competed in the annual Redbridge and Lordshill Federation Sports Day held at Fairisle Junior School.

Oakwood took 18 children from across the school which were split into three teams, Y2, Y4, Y6. Each team then competed against 3/4 other schools at a range of events (very similar to our own School Sports Day) with teams earning points at each station for and overall Team Oakwood.

Oakwood did very well, picking up plenty of wins on the way round the stations and were 'trading blows' with both Newlands (last years winners) and Fairisle in the battle for 1st. When all the events were complete and the points counted it was a Newlands, Oakwood, Fairisle - 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

In addition to the 'multi-skilled' events there were 6 sprint races - Girls and Boys, Y2, Y4 and Y6. This is where Team Oakwood showed their talent winning 5 out of the 6 races and coming 2nd in the 6th! A fantastic achievement.

Well done to everyone who represented the school so well and did Oakwood proud.

Year 2 swimming

Year 2 children have enjoyed 5 weeks of swimming lessons at Oaklands pool. They have learned new skills and they really enjoyed the fun free time on the last lesson.

Well done to all the Year 2 children!

It was a close call for some of our runners but they did really well and we're cheered on by their friends.

Science adventure at the university

Year 5 were extremely lucky to be invited to Southampton University to take part in some exciting science experiments and watch a science show. We had lots of fun and learnt lots!

Welcome the New Year 5!

The new year 5 spent their transfer day taking part in their very own Mini - Olympics! Their first job was to invent their own country as a group. Then to represent their country in the Olympics.

Y6 on Transfer Day

The new Y6 classes had a bubblrilliant time as they met their new Y6 teachers and classmates on Wednesday.
The day was all about having fun, and working together.

The children began the day by practicing lying (not normally encouraged!) in a class game of 'Would I Lie to to you?'.They then explored the world of bubbles large and small before working together to solve our Y6 team challenges.

All the children had a great day and are looking forward to their first 'Real' day in Y6 in September.

Sports Day 2017

What a day Sports Day 2017 was!

KS2 had their Sports Day activities first thing in the morning and completed all of their 13 sporting activities, earning points for their house at every station.
Year 3 did well at their first 'House Relays' whilst years 5/6 (now experts in Sports Day) led with way with some very close and exciting races.

Year group Sprint Champions were crowned and new records were set in the Y4 boys 60m and both the boys and girls 80m in Y6. So well done, Ethan, Marcus an Amy!

Our KS1 activities didn't go quite so smoothly - the rain hampering our Sports Day spirit. We did try and go for as long as we could, but eventually we were beaten by the weather. We did, however, manage to complete 8 out of the 10 different activities. KS1 Sprint Champion races will be run on a date TBA.

Well done to everyone who represented their house but this years winners are....Azura!!

Y5 Scientists

As part of Oakwood's Science week Y5 were treated to a science workshop with some scientists from Southampton University. We learnt about biodiversity and then got to explore the biodiversity in the Oakwood grounds.
