Muddy Minstead!

A selection of photos from the last couple of days. We are having loads of fun and are nice and muddy! Mrs Latto has departed, Mrs Fawcitt has arrived and we had Miss Harrison visit us this evening too.

Water, water, water... and a walk!

The children at Oakstead have had a busy day today. We kick started the day with a walk in the local area, searching for places we could transport our treasure to. When we got back to school we wrote and drew instructions to help someone find our pirate treasure. This afternoon we did three activities learning all about different things to do with water. We thought about plastic oceans, and what we could do to make little changes to help our planet become a better place.

Year 2 Castle Home Learning

Year 2 have been really enjoying their topic this term of 'Knights and Castles'. They were given a home learning project to create or research a castle. They could do this in any way they wished. Every piece of home learning was different and unique. A lot of hard work was put into these projects and the children should be very proud of what they have produced! Well done!

School Football Team Match Night 6

Team Oakwood played their final league game of the season on Thursday after school as they took on Fairisle Junior School (who have already been crowned league champions).

Fairisle started the better team and took advantage when the ball fell kindly to them after saves by the Oakwood 'keeper.  Oakwood worked well as a team, but Fairisle deserved their 3-0 half time lead. Oakwood began the second half brightly and Sonny scored quickly after intercepting the ball in the Fairisle box. Another chance quickly followed but the post denied Oakwood a second goal. The game stayed 3-1 until the last minute when somehow Fairisle scored directly from a corner.

Goal Scorer - Sonny (1) Man of the Match - Bleu.

Well done to the team for their efforts this season, they finished a respectable 3rd in the league.

Year 3 Sewing Part 1

Over the last term Year 3 have been learning to sew. We learned a variety of stitches including back stitch, running stitch, chain stitch, criss cross stitching and how to do a French knot. We learned how to follow a pattern, sew on buttons and, very importantly, how to undo any mistakes we made. To show off all our learned skills we produced a piece of embroidered  artwork. We worked very hard and used our growth mindset. Take a look at our finished pieces:-

Elm class and 5BW. Making Links.

For their home learning this half term, Year 2 were asked to create or research a castle in any way they wished. Every piece of home learning was different and unique. On Thursday afternoon, 5BW came to visit and view the fantastic work. It was a brilliant afternoon of sharing and making links to another class.

Y4 Shadow Puppet Theatres

Year 4 have had a busy few weeks creating their own shadow puppet theatres and using these to film their own plays. In English we worked in pairs to write our own scripts, changing the story of Little Red Riding Hood and introducing some familiar fairy tale characters. We put our drawing and cutting skills (and some of our parents!) to good use making our characters to put on our performances with. Once we had written our scripts, and made our characters and theatres we put them into action to film our performances!

School Football Team Match Night 5

Team Oakwood had two games today. The first was against Holy Family and Oakwood started the game very well. Oakwood didn't seem to have much luck in the first half, hitting the post three times and have  shot cleared off the line before Holy Family had even had a shot! However, from their only two shots, Holy Family ended the first half 2-0 up! The team never gave up hope and continued to give their all, finally getting a goal with 5 minutes left of the game. A second goal quickly followed and only the final whistle stopped Oakwood from a dramatic turn around as they were on top.

Well done Goal scorers Sonny and Leo.

After a game break, the second game saw Oakwood take on Shirley Junior School. Oakwood played well and despite some resolute defending by the Shirley team, took the lead early in the second half  -Will finding the back of the net. Sonny quickly made it 2-0 and come the final whistle Oakwood were celebrating a well deserved victory.

Well done to our player of the day, Praise.

Fun at the Factory!

Last week Year 5 have been lucky enough to visit Jude's ice cream factory, in Twyford (Winchester) and meet Jude herself and her husband, Theo, who created the business. They learnt about how the business was created; how ice cream is made; had a tour of the factory and they even got to sample some freshly made ice cream, YUMMY!

This visit was to kick start their latest topic 'Jude's Challenge', which they will be working on for the next 4 weeks. Back at school we have created business groups. Their challenge is to design a new flavour of ice cream and present their product, alongside a charity they would donate their profits to (if their team won) to Jude at the end of the project.

We had a great time meeting the Jude's team and are excited to continue designing our products!

City Cup Semi-Final

The School Football Team took on Springhill in the Semi-Final of the City Cup yesterday, the 7th consecutive season Oakwood have reached this stage of the competition!

Springhill started quickly and took a 0-2 lead before the game had really got going. It stayed this way until half time. After the restart, Oakwood exploded into life - scoring after only 30 seconds. The team started to play some excellent football but couldn't find an equalising goal. With Oakwood pushing forward in the final minutes, Springhill managed to scramble two more goals - scoring with the last kick of the game.

The 1-4 score didn't really reflect the quality of the game and but for Oakwood 'Keeper, and Man of the Match, Bradley, it could have been a very different score.

Oakwood goalscorer - Caitlin (1)
