Oakwood 3 -1 Tanners Brook

The school football season got back underway this week as Oakwood travelled to Tanners Brook Primary school. Although it wasn't the double header that we'd hoped for, the team picked up where they'd left off in early November.

Team Oakwood looked solid in defence and were dangerous in attack, taking two chances in the first half to make it 2-0 before half time. A number of new players made their Oakwood debuts in the second half and all did well on their first outing in green and white. Tanners Brook provided more of a challenge second half but another well taken goal put Oakwood 3-0 up before a Tanners Brook consolation goal just before the end made the final score Oakwood 3-1 Tanners Brook.

Well done to our goal scorers: Vinny (1) and Sonny (2).
Man of the Match: Sonny.

Year 6 Shakespeare

Year 6 have been studying some of the work of William Shakespeare this half term.

We have looked at plays such as: Macbeth, Twelfth Night, a Midsummer Nights dream and Romeo and Juliet.

They have performed lots of scenes from a range of the plays, but none quite so chillingly portrayed as 'The witches' scene from Macbeth.

Year 6 Science

Year six children have been learning about the body this half term. As part of their studies they have been looking at the functions of the circulatory system. To help them understand how the lungs work, they made their own model of them using a few simple household items!

Year 6 and Year R Buddies

Year 6 and Year R children have begun their buddy sessions during the last few weeks. The children will meet up with their buddy once a week for the rest of the year to complete a variety of tasks.

It's a great experience for our Year R children and helps remind our Year 6 children of where they once were and their responsibilities as a role model for others. The Year 6s already look forward to their sessions with their buddies each week.

A Busy time in Year 3!

YR and Y5 get Spacey!!

What a day Year R and Year 5 have had. Their first part of the day was having the very special opportunity to visit Southampton University's astrodome. This was brought from the university to our school hall. Both year groups learned all about stars and galaxies, having our very own planetarium at school! The second part of their day was spent sharing each others learning all about 'Space'. A really lovely day. All pupils were exceptional today :)

Year 1 Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon at their Mad Hatter's Tea Party.  As part of Year 1's history they had been learning about Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland.  The children were asked to make a 'mad' hat for their home learning project and brought them in to wear at their very own tea party inspired by the book.  The children decorated cakes they had made and enjoyed eating them whilst watching the film version of the story of Alice in Wonderland.

Year 1 Cupcake baking

As part of the children's history topic this half term they have been learning about the author Lewis Carroll. The children were having their mad hatters tea party on Friday 8th February and had the opportunity to bake some cupcakes in preparation for their party. The children had to measure different ingredients and learnt how to use the scales to do so. The children then decorated them at their party.

Year 1 Beebots

Year 1 this half term have been looking at coding and algorithms. We have used an app on our ipads and beebots to give instructions on how they should move. It was a great activity and we will be setting obstacle courses for the beebots next term!

Year 1 Local Walk

This morning Year 1 went on a local walk around Sandpiper Road. The children used a map to follow the route we were taking and help identify the names of the roads. As we were looking at the names of the roads we talked about the different birds they were named after, where the birds could be found and a fun fact about them

Year R Space Adventures!

We have been learning about space in Year R. We had a message from the Alien's who asked us to do lots of work for them! Here are some of the things we did ....

Wow! We certainly have some creative children in Year 5! This afternoon, we had our exhibition for our space home learning projects. The children and members of staff who visited us this afternoon were amazed at the hard work put into these projects and the impressive variety of work on display. Have a look at the photo gallery below to see some their excellent work. Well done Year 5!
